After a brief meeting, the schedule for the retreat was finally decided. Jieun and her gang had the whole event planned out and two of the guys, Han Jisung and Park Seonghwa, had exclusively promised them a fun surprise. Judging by the evil glint in their eyes, Jaehwa didn't trust the surprise much. After a few minutes, they had announced that they were conducting small sports games. Jaehwa not being a big sports enthusiast had instantly declined her participation which earned her a few protests from Jieun. But that was not all. There was another reason for her lack of participation. Kim Seokjin.
After receiving quite a surprise earlier, that she was not sure why it affected her as much as it did, she was intent on avoiding the Homme Fatale at all costs. Participating in the mini sports games meant getting randomly sorted into groups that posed a high risk of her and Jin ending up in the same group. Besides, she didn't even want to face him even if she were on the opposing team. The mere thought of it sent an unwanted feeling down her spine.
And so Jaehwa sat at the sidelines, munching on a bag of potato chips as she watched the ongoing war of badminton between Team Kim Seokjin and Team Royal Dragons. Jaehwa didn't know who came up with the team names but they were both lame in her humble opinion. She watched as the game went on with a fierce neck-to-neck tie. Watching Seokjin from the sidelines was just as bad as facing him. He was just too damn handsome today.
Miffed at herself, she bit down on her chips, angrily chomping them down, when an enthusiastic voice broke her out of her trance.
"Noona!"
Lee Jaekyung bounded down the ground towards her excitedly and she squinted her eyes attempting a smile at the younger guy's enthusiasm.
"You're here alone?"
"Um, well."
"You must have been so lonely..." He began. "Don't worry. That's why I came to keep you company. I knew you'd like it."
"Uhh..." She narrowed her eyes. Something felt off.
Jaekyung suddenly placed his hands over hers and her brows shot up in surprise. Looking into her eyes, Jaekyung asked. "Noona, do you believe in fate?"
"No." The reply came a little quickly but she didn't care. The whole situation was tickling her warning signals. Jaekyung pouted as he looked back at the field.
"Aww, that's a shame. Because I do."
What? She didn't have a choice but to cough out an awkward laugh as she watched the younger guy play with her fingers. Something in her told her to pull her hand back at once but the thought of offending someone just did not sit well with her.
"I believe this is fate," Jaekyung added, at last, sending her a look that in her befuddled state of mind looked utterly creepy.
"Oh, haha...okay."
What the frack?!!
Internally beginning to panic, she was about to look around for an escape when her savior came in the form of a certain cherry red-haired man. "Han Jaehwa-ssi! Why are you sitting here? Aren't you participating in the badminton game?"
Jaehwa quickly shot up from her seat, sneakily tugging her hands away from Jaehkyung as she faced Hoseok. "Ah, no. I feel tired."
"Oh, are you okay? Are you feeling sick?" Hoseok asked, genuinely concerned. Jaehwa was touched at his concern. She was however not sure if Hoseok will stay there giving her an excuse to slowly distance herself from Jaekyung. Finally, she came to a decision as she forced out a smile as she replied, "I am actually fine. It's nothing serious."
A little manipulation of her tone and some subtle facial gestures from her was all it took to get the message across. Hoseok's eyes lit up in understanding. Suddenly, acting as if he remembered something Hoseok began to say, "Actually, I think Lee Jieun was looking for you earlier. She should be by that cabin near the woods."
