Jaehwa was right. The big surprise from Jisung and Seonghwa was, just as she had thought, trouble.
The haunted house was the most absurd game she had ever heard about. A game where a bunch of kids play treasure hunt inside an abandoned building in the middle of the night for god knows what reason and that was exactly what they were playing.
Apparently, they were supposed to go inside the building and find a note Seonghwa had hidden somewhere and bring it back to him. Jisung also hadn't forgotten to spin out a very creative tale about ghosts of patients who had died in the hospital still haunting the hallways of the very same hospital before the game began, just to spook everyone to the core and enhance the experience of the horror game. And so there she was, trudging down the place into an abandoned hospital building where the game was supposed to take place.
The building was, as expected, creepy. The walls and the windows looked as if they had seen better days. Broken chairs and other furniture littered the hallway. Often she would come across rusty, old surgical equipment along the way which she steered clear of. Thick dark wines crept up the walls and cobwebs hung in thick layers everywhere. The distant hum of the cicadas was the only noise that penetrated into the building. Jaehwa's fingers slowly began to shake.
She was not afraid of ghosts. Not at all. She didn't even believe in them. But there was one thing that gave her the chills every time she saw an abandoned building. Serial killers. Buildings such as these were possible abodes of cold-blooded psychopaths and that's what scared her the most.
" Why do I have to play this ridiculous game!" Jaehwa cried as her vigilant eyes looked around the area and her lower lip trembled from the cold. The building was chilly. This place is so scary...
"Awwwwooooooooo....."
A lone wolf howled at a distance and Jaehwa's fingers clenched. You are not sacred.
She assured herself. "It's just the cold. There's no serial killer here. Come one now Jaehwa. You are brave. You can do this." She tightened her clenched fists taking on a determined stance. Serial killer or not. Here I come.
"I can't understand what people are saying, which beat should I match to? With each step, my shadow grows!" Jaehwa began singing in a high-pitched voice, occasionally jerking her head back and forth as she trudged up to the upper levels. The place was dusty as hell. No, actually hell would have even better air. Hacking out a loud cough, she continued to march up the stairs singing at the top of her lungs. "Find me and I'm gonna bleed with ya! Eeyo! Bring it on, bring the pain oh yeah!"
That's right. No serial killer would be able to handle this amount of ear r*pe. "Eeyo! Come on up, bring the pai- WHOAAOO!" Jaehwa screeched, flinching back when she spotted a movement. Soon her eye landed on a spider web with its resident sitting in the center nonchalantly. "It's just a spider." She breathed out relieved as she tiptoed away from the spiderweb leaving a wide radius between them, just in case. "Have a good night, Mr.Spider."
Leaving the place, she ventured on turning on the flashlight of her phone as the building got darker and creepier. The chill of the night bit into her bones and her jaw started vibrating. She could barely make out her hot breath condensing in the air as she flashed her light to the dark corners. Where the hell did they hide the notes?
There were no notes as far as she had looked. Were they trying to trick her? Or did the others already find the ones down below? Where even were the others?
Jaehwa felt as if she was walking in circles but there were no signs of notes. All of a sudden, from a nearby room, came a hum. Soft and off tune, it floated through the dark corners and reached her ears. Her ears perked up at the sound. Is that a serial killer?
Don't be ridiculous, Jaehwa. There's no serial killer here. Besides, serial killers don't whimper.
Despite her reassurances, her heartbeats raced and cold sweat dotted her forehead. She followed the strange whimpers, edging along the wall, too scared to leave her back exposed. The whimpers gradually rose in volume and she heard faint footsteps.
What's this? Are ghosts real after all?
Jaehwa dismissed the thought immediately. There were no ghosts. It looked as if someone was purposefully trying quite hard to make her buy the load of bullcrap about ghosts in the hallways. She swore if it was one of those dumbasses who had prepared the creepy game, trying to scare her, then she was going to throw some hands. The whimpers became even louder and she was now more than sure it was one of those dumbasses. Stepping out from the corner, she yelled.
"Jisung, you little piece of-"
Her yell had triggered a high-pitched manly scream from there and she briefly saw the shadow of something lean and tall. Jaehwa being herself, the first thing that came to her mind was a slender man. Slender man, is that you?
Nah, this slender man looks familiar.
Stepping forward she shined her phone's flashlight at the form of the man and gasped. The next thing she knew she had burst into a fit of laughter. "BAHAHAHahahahaha! S-seokjin?!"
She pointed at the pale trembling form of the terrified man who had paused mid-scream, eyes scanning her in terror. Jaehwa's laughter intensified. He looked so mortified and...ugly.
"I need a snap of this!" She cried in between her cackles. Quickly, navigating to her camera she took a picture of Kim Seokjin, her mortal enemy before he could recover from his shock.
Snap
"Oh my god!" She cried out cackling like a little witch, clutching her stomach as she showed the picture to Seokjin, who was just recovering from the scare. Finally, his brain registered what had happened. Suddenly jumping up from his position, he cried, "DELETE THAT!"
"No way!" Jaehwa yelled back, ready to run away but Seokjin was quick. Before she could place another foot back, he was onto her trying to snatch her phone away from her. "Give it to me!"
"I said no!" She laughed out holding the phone away from him, tears threatening to spill from her eyes from laughing so much. Holding her phone towards her back, because she was sure Jin would have no problem getting it from her if she were to hold it up since he was tall, she cleverly dodged his advances, exchanging the phone between her hands. She could feel his annoyance building up as he fumbled around her to get her phone. "Give me that!""Ah-ah!" She sang clearly, enjoying his frustration.
"Delete that picture." He lunged for the phone.
"Not a chance~" She sang dodging his attack. His frustration was growing with each second. He was getting tired of her wriggling around and suddenly his patience snapped.
"Stay Still!"
The next thing she knew, she was pulled in to him, his left arm circling around her shoulders to keep her from struggling and the world went dark.
