Chapter 23

The only place in all of Valorant's headquarters that Brimstone could get any peaceful quietness was his own office.

It was a sealed-off cubicle, surrounded by four plastic, light yellow walls that had nothing in it except for his desk and a bulletin board.

Brimstone looks up from the stacks of paperwork on his desk at a ping from his communications device.  It was the kind of ping that both he and his fellow agents always liked to hear.  It was the ping of an operation completion.

Brimstone reaches a finger up to his comms device opens up Operation: Overhaul's status screen from it.

There was nothing on the screen except the words OPERATION: OVERHAUL COMPLETE in large, orange digital letters.

"They've actually done it," Brimstone mutters to himself, a grin breaking across face.  "They actually took down Chisaki.  Well done, you guys."

Brimstone turns around to the bulletin board stuck to the wall behind him.  On that bulletin were seven sheets of paper with faces and names on them as well as some general information on them.  He reaches up to the sheet with the picture of a young man with short, scruffy chocolate brown hair and the words KAI CHISAKI on the top in big bold letters and tears it down.  He balls it up and tosses it up into the air behind him.  He doesn't need to turn around to know that the paper ball had sunk into his wastebasket.

"That's one down," Brimstone says, folding his arms and looking up to the bulletin board in front of him.

He then reaches over to pull another sheet off of the bulletin board.  On it was the picture of a rather rabid-looking man.  He had long, scraggly black hair that stood up, an upside-down rain drop shaped head and a red, tattered bandana wrapped around his head with holes for his unnervingly wide, psychotic looking eyes.  Strapped to his back were two katanas in their sheaths.  The name CHIZOME AKAGURO was written at the top of the paper in big, bold letters.

"Maybe I should give'em a break before sending them after the next target," Brimstone says, re-tacking the paper to the bulletin board.

Just as he says that, the door clicks open.  Brimstone turns to see Cypher, the Valorant agency's surveillance and security guy, enter Brimstone's cubicle.

"Reyna and Sova are back from their latest operation," Cypher says in his sharp, Arabian accent.  "They say they've got something to report.

In a large, white-walled room, the eleven agents of the Valorant agency sit around a large wooden, oval wooden table in grey, plastic chairs.  Brimstone was sitting at the front of the table and to his sides were the other agents' seats going down and around the large oval.

Most of the agents were a little tense.  That was to be expected though, since it had been nearly a year since all the agents chose to gather in one of headquarter's conference rooms.  This must've been a pretty serious matter.

At the far end of the table at Brimstone's right, Sova stands up from his seat, a sheet of papers in his hand.  His light blue, cybernetic right eye shines a little in the conference room's bright white light.

"So, Reyna and I just got back from our...operation," Sova says.

"Execution~," Reyna coos, affectionately running a finger along the blade of her knife.

"Doesn't matter," Sova says.  "Anyway, I managed to infiltrate the Kingdom base you requested me to.  As I entered the target facility, I was met with very little interference, as most of Wood's forces were outside trying to detain Reyna, who was attempting to kill as many of them as she possibly could without regards to the mission's success as she usually does.  I managed to find Wood's stash of intel and as I was going through it, this was what I found."
