Chapter 12

"Raze, I swear to everything beyond this Earth, you are never entering my lab ever again!" Killjoy basically screams.

"Awwww, c'mon KJ, we were just having some fun!" Raze says.

"Will you miscreants keep it down?" Omen growls, his voice low and dangerous.

Killjoy and Raze both ignore him as they usually do when Omen tells them to be quiet.

"Normally, I wouldn't care, but you just blew up a whole batch of my prototype alarm bots!" Killjoy shouts, her voice bouncing off of the stainless steel walls of her laboratory.  "I can't even count how many times I told you those were off-limits!"

"I must've forgot," Raze says, tapping her chin thoughtfully.  "My bad.  Won't happen again."

"Course it won't happen again, the next time I see you in my lab, I'm literally going to activate all my sentry bots on you!" Killjoy growls.  "Ugh, those took me four months to make!  Now I'll have to redo the manufacturing process all over again!"

"Killjoy, seems your revival went well," Brimstone says, walking into the laboratory.

"Oh, hello commander," Killjoy greets as Raze politely says "commander" and salutes.  "Yes, my revival went absolutely splendid."

"I can see that," Brimstone says.  "I can practically hear you shouting from the end of the hallway."

"I...apologize for that, commander," Killjoy says, shooting a glare at Raze, who reverts her gaze, whistles and twiddles her thumbs.  "Anyway, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

"Come with me," Brimstone says.  "Not you Raze, just Killjoy."

"Yes, commander," Killjoy says, turning to Raze.  "Out."

"Aw, but KJ, I-"

"No buts," Killjoy says pointedly.  "Get out."

Raze pouts and turns to leave the laboratory.

"For you information, that swarm grenade in your pocket is still linked to my detonator," Killjoy says.  "You have ten seconds to hand it over or you'll have nanobots chewing through your skin."

Raze pouts again, digging into her pocket and tossing a swarm grenade to Killjoy, who deftly catches it with one hand.

"Okay commander, lead the way," Killjoy says.

"So, I've been testing recent frequencies on the void machine Omen, Yoru, and I have built a while back," Sova says.  "And-"

"You mean the one that nearly got the whole squad killed and all of headquarters destroyed?" Killjoy cuts in, turning to Brimstone.  "I thought you ordered that machine to be destroyed."

"I did," Brimstone says.

"But I never destroyed it," Sova says.  "Shoot me later.  Anyways, I was testing different frequencies on the void machine and, when I tuned into this specific wavelength..."

Sova presses a few buttons and rotates the large metal dial on the center of the console to the left slightly.  Killjoy suddenly hears a small ping in her right ear.  She's quick to reach up to it and hold the small red button on her comms device, projecting a small orange screen right in front of her eyes.

On it were five small squares underneath OPERATION: PRESERVATION in big orange letters, one for Phoenix, Jett, Spark, Yoru, and Killjoy.  No vitality intel was provided and communications line was disabled, but it is indicated that Phoenix, Jett, and Yoru had their ultimates active.  Spark's box was blank.
