The next two rounds of the physical course went alright. The cuts on my feet slowed me down significantly so I finished with the last half of our dorm, which I wasn't ecstatic about. I needed to impress Namjoon today, and I hadn't done that thus far. He and the other lieutenants had left after the second round so they were able to watch the other soldiers on the agility obstacle course.I planned to strap up my feet at lunch, and make sure I kicked ass at the agility course.
Jungkook had not spoken to me much since he helped me clean up my cuts. I assumed he was quiet because he was in pain and didn't want anyone to know.
Once the last round was over, we were dismissed and headed to the dining hall in our dorm to have some lunch. The entire dorm strolled slowly down the path as a group, in almost complete silence. We were all exhausted, and we were only half way through our day.
The smell of food was a warm welcome when we strolled into the dining room. It seemed like we were having fried rice for lunch, which made my mouth water. To be honest, any food would have made my mouth water after the morning we had had. Everyone lined up and waited patiently for the ladies to serve our food. When it was my turn, I smiled widely at the ladies standing behind the counter and thanked them graciously for the food they had prepared, which earned me an extra spoon of rice.
I sauntered over to the table Jungkook and I normally sat at, with him following closely behind me. I slumped into my seat, grateful for the time I was able to spend sitting down. Jungkook sat down across from me, not bothering to look up from his tray.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked gently.
"I'm fine," he mumbled abruptly, which I took as my cue to stop talking and leave him be. I could tell he wasn't in the mood to talk, so I decided that I wouldn't pry further. We sat in silence and ate our food, with time moving at a snail's pace. We had never gone this long without speaking to one another. It was an uncomfortable silence that I had never experienced with Jungkook. I finished the rest of my food and stood up from the table, causing Jungkook to look up at me.
"I'm going upstairs to strap up my feet and change my socks," I said with a small smile.
"I'll come with you, just give me a second," he mumbled through a mouthful of food. He quickly spooned the rest of his food into his mouth and stood up to walk with me to place our trays into the bucket.
We walked out of the dining room and up the stairs towards our room, the silence seeming to follow us as well after I had hoped it would stay in the dining hall. The corridor was quiet, there wasn't a soul in sight. Everyone was either in the dining room, or heading back to training early.
I pushed open the door to our room and headed to my trunk. I flung it open and dug around for the body tape I used to strap up my breasts. I had brought multiple rolls with me, so I had more than enough to spare. I sat on my bed and started untying my laces as Jungkook plopped onto the bed next to me.
"What do you see in him?" he uttered while he played with his fingers in his lap.
"In who?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows as I looked towards him.
"Lieutenant Kim, I saw the way you were looking at him, and the way he was looking at you." His voice was hollow and dripping with unspoken emotions, like someone had just told him his dog had died and he didn't want anyone to know he was sad.
"What are you talking about? He wasn't looking at me in any kind of way. Didn't you see him shaking his head after the first round? He thinks I'm pathetic," I trailed off as I pulled the tape around my bare feet to try and keep the dirt out of my open wounds.
"I wouldn't be so sure Liz..."
"Kook, I think you're looking too deep into the situation. He's our superior, he doesn't see me as anything other than a private, desperately scrambling to get into his platoon, and failing miserably," I tried to reassure him, not fully understanding why I should. Whether I saw anything in Namjoon or not, had nothing to do with him. We had known each other for three days and we had exclusively agreed to keep our relationship friendly, with benefits on the side. Even still, I wasn't going to open up to him about the fact that my body seemed to be reacting to Namjoon's presence subconsciously. I needed to be sure he was in fact the reason before causing unnecessary drama with Jungkook; I could tell Jungkook was not fond of Namjoon already, so I would hold back any information regarding the lieutenant for now.
