"I'm an only child, and I live with my father," Yiseo told me as she started the story about her childhood, "My mother ran out on us when I was twelve, so I've only ever really known a life with my father. Even when my mother was around, she was either drunk, or high. My dad tried his best to hide it from me, but I knew. He and I are as thick as thieves, he is my partner in crime."
When Yiseo spoke of her father, her face lit up and her smile was so genuine, and I knew the feeling; the love I had for my father compared to no other, and I would never love anyone more than I love him.
"Was your father in the military for long?" I asked as I rested my chin in my palm to show her she had my full attention.
"No, he served his mandatory time and went into finance after that, he never really had a passion for it."
"So what about you? What made you decide to enlist?" I asked with an airy chuckle.
"I'm not really sure, I had no ambitions growing up, and I never had any desire to go to university. I worked odd jobs here and there, in coffee shops, at bookstores, simple jobs; but I never felt fulfilled. After one of my close friends enlisted, it planted a seed in my head and I thought why not, so I started to train and the rest is history,"
"Wow, that's really great!" I smiled.
"What made you enlist?" Yiseo returned the question.
"My father, funnily enough. He spent most of his life in the military but after he met my mother he took a hiatus to raise me and my older brother," I started, "When we were growing up, he would always tell us stories about his platoon and the friends he made, it was so inspiring. So, I studied and got my degree, then enlisted; and here I am!"
"You have a degree? So how old are you? If you don't mind me asking," Yiseo asked nervously.
"I'm 23," I smiled, "How about you?"
"I'm only 19, still a baby I guess," she laughed."Oh really! Jungkook is 19 too!" I said excitedly, "You guys will get along great!"
She giggled softly and looked off to look at Jungkook where he had his head leaning over the back of the bench as he absentmindedly stared at the sky, "Yeah, I think so too..."
Yiseo and I sat on that bench and talked for over an hour. We spoke about school, our friends, our exes, and our families. It was refreshing being able to speak to another woman, especially one that was a similar age. As much as I loved the friends I had made at the camp since I had arrived, a new face and a fresh personality was just what I needed to boost my mood.
I hugged Yiseo goodbye and said goodnight before strolling over to where Jungkook was sitting. He was still hanging his head over the back of the bench staring at the stars, humming a nondescript song while he pouted and dug the heels of his boots into the sand beneath his feet.
"Hey sexy, can I get your digits?" I said in a deep voice, mimicking a pretentious male catcalling a woman walking down the street.
Jungkook flipped his head upright and looked over at me confused, but once he realised it was me, his face relaxed and a smirk crawled onto his face.
"I'll give you anything you want baby," he responded as he stood up to stalk closer to me.
"Oh? Anything?" I raised my eyebrow as I reached him.
"That's right," He said as he wrapped his arms around my waist leaning closer to my ear to whisper, "Anything you want..."
I giggled as I wrapped my arms around his neck, "Well, let's find out how true that statement is,"
