"Are you sure about this?" I questioned Jungkook as we stood in front of the steps leading into dorm 12. There were only a handful of grey, concrete stairs that led up to the main door. The wooden door was royal blue and the paint was chipped around the edges, making it look tattered and worn.
"I am, none of the other platoons interested me," Jungkook reassured me with a smile as he put his arm around my shoulders.
"Here we go then!" I let out a sigh as I started heading up the steps towards the main door, creating one of the most defining moments of my military career. As I pushed open the door, a stern, young man was waiting for us on the other side. I bowed in greeting when I saw him, Jungkook doing the same as he entered the door behind me. He was tall, but had a slight frame. He had sharp features, but none of them were overly defining.
"Name?" the man questioned sternly with minimal emotion.
"Jung Elizabeth, sir," I replied. He scanned over the clipboard in his hand for a moment before returning his gaze to mine.
"Lieutenant Kim has arranged a private room for you. At the top of the stairs, turn right and it will be the second door on the left," he said simply before turning his gaze to Jungkook standing beside me, "Name?" he repeated.
"Jeon Jungkook, sir," Jungkook stated.
"Room 1," the male retorted, "You have 45 minutes to unpack before you need to meet the lieutenant here, do not be late. Tardiness will not be tolerated in this dorm. You may go."
Jungkook and I both bowed before walking away. As we walked towards the staircase, my eyes wandered around our surroundings only to notice that the layout was exactly the same as dorm 19; I hadn't noticed the first time I was here. I actually didn't remember much at all from my first time here.
"That guy was rude," Jungkook whispered to me as we ascended the staircase together.
"I feel like everyone here isn't going to be as friendly as Jackson, Kook," I chuckled softly as we reached the top of the staircase simultaneously.
"I miss Jackson already..." Jungkook groaned quietly.
"I'll come find you once I've settled in, I shouldn't be long," I said to Jungkook as we went separate ways down the same corridor.
"Don't get lost!" he responded as he walked backwards towards his room. I laughed and shook my head at his response.
I strolled down the corridor and glanced at the doors I was passing. The ones on the right seemed to mainly be for storage and the one I passed on the left read "Sargeant: Soldier Wellbeing". I couldn't help but wonder who the sergeant would be in this dorm. I kept walking in search of my room, the sound of my heavy steps echoing off the walls beside me.
I stopped when I reached the second door on the left, the door simply saying 'Private: Authorised Personnel Only'' on it. I was happy I would have my own room, I would feel more comfortable, especially because I would be surrounded by more unfamiliar people in this dorm. Before I stepped in, I couldn't help but feel uneasy at the familiarity of the corridor I was standing in. I turned around to see what other rooms were around me. The door to the right of mine seemed to be a linen storage room, but the door behind me pushed the air out of my lungs. Carved into the wooden door was the word 'Lieutenant'.
I closed my eyes and sighed. I couldn't believe Kim Namjoon had put me in the room across from his own, I don't think he could have made it any more obvious that he wanted to keep an eye on me.
I turned back around and entered my new room. It seemed to be slightly smaller than what Jackson's was, but it had the same layout. The bed placed in the centre of the left wall was a single bed and there was a trunk beside it, under the double paned window. A smaller bed also meant that Jungkook and I would have limited space for activities, not that I would risk sneaking him in here with Namjoon right across the corridor. Beside the left side of the bed stood a simple armchair with upholstery that looked to be from the sixties.
