Chapter Eleven

"Okay privates, we will be splitting you into pairs randomly." Ten said as he stood in front of the various screens that hung on the surveillance wall with a clipboard in his hand. I patiently waited for him to call mine or Jungkook's name.

"Jeon with Kong," Ten yelled.

My heart sunk instantly, I was hoping Jungkook and I would be able to go in together. Jungkook gave me a weak smile before heading towards his partner. Ten called a few more pairs as I waited for my name.

"Jung with Han," I looked around and a tall man started approaching me. He didn't have any defining features, his face was quite plain, but his eyes looked as if they were filled with rage. He didn't seem to be happy that he had been paired with me.

"Jung?" He asked as he got closer.

I nodded and gave him a slight bow. He stood next to me and turned towards Ten again. "I'm Jaejoon," I turned to see he wasn't even looking at me. His face was stern and hostile as he looked towards the front of the room.

"Elizabeth," I said, looking away from him. If he wanted to be rude, I could be too. I didn't need his negative energy ruining my chances of succeeding today.

I saw Jungkook smiling and laughing with his partner. I was jealous. Jungkook was impossible not to like; and I got stuck with someone apathetic and emotionless.

"Alright Jeon and Kong, you're up first. Take your firearm of choice and make your way to the red door at the end of the hall. There is luminous tape on the floor to guide you. Use the torch on your helmet as a source of light as there will be no lights inside. Good luck." Ten motioned towards the two men standing in front of him.

Jungkook looked at me and winked and started to walk towards the firearm wall, picking up a pistol before changing his mind and taking an AR-15 instead. He and his partner made their way to the red door.

Before they could open it, a group of men walked through the doorway behind us. Their badges made it evident that they were all lieutenants or deputies. I scanned over their faces quickly, instantly relieved when I realised Kim Namjoon wasn't among them. I wasn't ready to see him yet.

"Lieutenants, welcome, we are about to start," Ten said as he noticed them filing in, "Your time starts now, you can go in," Ten said as he nodded at the two gentlemen standing at the red door. He started typing away at the computer on the desk underneath the screens, all of them suddenly coming to life so we could see what was happening. The rooms were crowded and messy, with items strewn across the floor and furniture scattered around. Jungkook's entire demeanor had changed; his posture and the way he moved was different, stiff almost, as he held a firm grip around his gun. The first dummy came out of a closet that Jungkook was approaching. He was swift in turning his gun and hitting the dummy under the chin with the butt of it before it retracted into the closet. He was good and his response was quick.

Kong was slower than Jungkook, he had to double tap a few dummies before they retracted, but he seemed to manage. They made their way to the end and exited. They came out of a door to our left, both out of breath and heaving for air.

"It is stuffy as hell in there man," Kong said as he closed the door behind them

"Nicely done gentlemen," one of the lieutenants said as the two made their way over to one of the benches and sat down. It took them about ten minutes to clear the house. I assumed that would be the average for the day, considering the time constraints.

A few other pairs had gone in and completed the course. The group of lieutenants and deputies had rotated, but still no sign of Kim Namjoon, thankfully.

"Jung and Han, you're up," Ten said nodding towards us. I walked over to where the firearms were hanging on the wall as confidently as I could. I picked up a pistol; it was always my weapon of choice. Light and easy to handle. Jaejoon scoffed when he saw my choice of weapon as he picked up an AK-47 and walked over to the door. I didn't care what he thought about me, I would show him what this little gun could do.
