Chapter 9: Behind The Shadows

It had been a few days that we moved into a secret hideout cabin in an undisclosed location; our mission this time, was to protect Eren and Historia.

The new Special Operations Squad had been assembled; Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, Sasha, Eren, Historia and I served under Captain Levi's command.

"Hey Sasha, if you try to steal meat once more, the captain will skin you alive, got it?" Jean said irittated, as he pushed the door open, coming in with said girl and Armin.

"Who, me?" She retorted, trying to prove her innocence.

"Hey guys, did you wipe the mud off your boots before coming in?" Eren said angrily at them, holding his broom in his hands.

"Are you kidding me? Can't you see all the stuff we're carrying?" Jean snapped at him, and I was sure a quarrel between the two of them would break out soon.

"You idiot! Do you think an excuse like that will work with captain Levi? As if (Y/n) making your bed this morning wasn't enough-"

"Oh shut it! Who are you, my mom?" Jean yelled at him, infuriated.

I sighed heavily, this was going to be a long day. Just then, Mikasa and Historia entered the cabin, holding logs in their arms.

"We're back." Mikasa announced.

"Wait, you were chopping firework?" Armin said in disbelief.

"Gotta stay in shape somehow." She said unfazed.

"You got grabbed by a titan, you should be in bed recovering!" Armin reprimanded her.

"I think you're wasting your breath, I caught her doing sit ups this morning." Eren confessed.

"Oh so you're a nag and a spy!" Jean spat out yet again.

Before Eren could make up a comeback, I grabbed them both by their collars; I've had enough of this.

"Will you two shut the fuck up and return to your duties? We have no time to waste and you're irritating everybody. I don't plan on getting lectured by the captain because of your childish behaviour, so quit it!" I threatened them.

"Funny...It's almost like we're back in the cadet corps." Sasha reminisced, standing in front of the table.

"Chaos...Why would they choose us for the new Levi squad? Protecting Eren and Historia is a very important mission." Armin shared his thoughts with us.

"Because we're very talented, I assume." Sasha simply explained, putting a bagel in her bag in the process.

"Sasha, what did you just put in your bag." I said bluntly; as if having to watch after Eren and Jean wasn't enough, I had to deal with her kleptomaniac tendencies; a habit I first noticed back in the training corps.

"Definitely not a loaf a bread." She spun around, looking at us.

Everyone started reprimanding her, and she in response only shrugged her shoulders; said she couldn't resist the sight of food.

"What's all the commotion?" Said a stern voice, and I froze in my place; he was back and he was definitely going to be disappointed in our behaviour.

The cadets were still bickering, but they stopped once the Captain touched the surface underneath the table; speckles of dust sticking on his fingers, as he raised his hand to his eye level, examining it in pure disgust.

"I'm quite certain I gave you enough time." He stated, turning to look at us.
