She remembers forests with trees reaching the skies,

valleys of uncharted territory,
the glorious sea and her crashing waves.

She also remembers pyres for the dead,
Wails, cries and screams for lost ones,
Lifeless bodies scattered around,
Crimson color on the once green grass.

She now claims she remembers it all,
But how can she remember something so well
If it never existed to begin with?

She remembers ash-colored hair
Swaying in the wind's dominion,
Calloused hands gripping a pencil tightly,
Dancing along a piece of paper,
Eyes the color of honey
Softening in the pits of night.

She claims she remembers that boy, from a previous lifetime,
But how can she remember someone so well,
If he didn't remember her at all now?

She remembers shared glances
Knowing looks and acts of affection,
Promises to be there with one another
Promises for a conjoined life.

She claims she remembers it all clearly,
as if it was yesterday,
But how can she remember all these things,
If they never happened to begin with?

Unhappy with where she was,
Unhappy with what she was doing,
She let her mother, the sea,
calm her down
As her siblings, the waves, crushed underneath her feet.

She felt a person approaching her,
Settling down next to her,
Her sisters and brothers greeting the stranger as well.
And she claimed he was no stranger,
For they had met forever ago,
Maybe lifetimes before this moment.
Wherever and whenever it had been,
She recalls the sound of the fierce waves sounding like a melody to her ears.

And, unbeknownst to him, she was right,
Because many moons ago,
They sat at the same place, the pale moonlight illuminating on their skin,
As words that are now fading to scribbles in her mind,
Were exchanged, and lives were combined.
