Wyatt stirred awake in the midst of being carried up the stairs. He looked around, trying to figure out his surroundings.
"He's alive," Chris whispered as he stopped walking.
"I'm sorry," Wyatt yawned. "I didn't mean to fall asleep."
"You were comfortable," Chris reasoned.
Wyatt smiled as Chris took him into his room and over to his bed.
Despite his urge to crawl in next to him, he opted for the gentleman's route. "I can leave if you want. I know you're tired."
Wyatt shook his head. "No, you can stay. I got a second wind."
Chris grinned as Wyatt lay down on the bed and scooted over. Without a second thought, he got into the bed next to him. They rolled onto their sides and looked at each other for a long while.
"So?" Chris playfully asked.
"So?"
"Seems there's something going on between you and me."
"Maybe?" Wyatt asked.
Chris reached out and took his hand in his. "I think it's more than a maybe."
Wyatt enjoyed the warmth of Chris's hand on his. "It's surreal to me."
"Me too."
"Really? For you?"
Chris grinned. "I don't exactly do this kind of thing. Ever."
Wyatt took that in and remained quiet.
"So, what made you want to get into acting?" Chris asked.
"I like performing. And I feel like it helps people."
"Yeah?"
"People find comfort in fantasy. They turn to movies and books for comfort and an escape. I know I've certainly been doing a lot of that lately."
"That wouldn't happen to have anything to do with your ex-boyfriend, would it?"
Wyatt drew a deep breath. "I mean, everyone has a story. That doesn't mean mine is very interesting."
"But it deserves to be heard all the same," Chris said. "Tell me."
"You probably already know the high points. Or low points, I guess. I was in a relationship for about a year. I found out he was married to a woman. And that she was pregnant."
"That can't have been easy to stomach."
"Yeah, especially after I lost that role. I wasn't really expecting a double whammy. It's kind of my pattern though. I tend to attract closeted men who lead double lives." He looked up at Chris and immediately felt a stab of embarrassment. "I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to say-"
Chris smiled and squeezed his hand. "It's alight. I'm not that easy to offend." He smiled softly. "So, what did you do about it?"
"I ended things. But I should have ended them long before that came out. He wasn't a good boyfriend but I wanted to give him a chance. I'm ashamed to say I stayed longer than I should have."
"You shouldn't be ashamed. There's nothing wrong with wanting to give people a chance."
"But self preservation has to kick in at some point, right?"
"Yeah, at some point. It sounds like yours did though."
Wyatt moved a little closer, his body craving Chris's warmth. "Yeah. So that's my story. It's actually why I'm here. I went into this weird self-imposed exile. Started avoiding people. My friends got worried about me."
