"Wait a minute," Elizabeth said as she watched Wyatt pace back and forth in the den. "You mean to tell me that not only is Chris Hemsworth our neighbor for the week, not only are most of the cast of Avengers with him, not only did he hang out with you at the beach, but he also wants all of us to hang out?"
Wyatt stopped pacing and folded his arms over his chest. "Yes. That pretty much sums it up. That and I'm about to have a fucking heart attack."
"You looked pretty composed out there this morning," Darren pointed out. "Not that we were all spying on you. We weren't. We all just happened to look out the window at the same time you were laying on the beach next to him."
"Looking like a pair of lovers," Allie added.
Wyatt rolled his eyes. "Guys, it's really unhealthy for me to think that could be the case. He's a straight man. And that's that. I refuse to get tangled up in anything like that again. Plus, he's just being friendly. I will not read too much into this."
"New mantra?" Elizabeth asked.
"Looked way more than friendly to me. You looked pretty intimate," Allie went on.
"Don't," Wyatt groaned. "This is all just a really interesting turn of events. That's it."
"He picked you up. He watched you dance. And now he's spent the morning with you," Darren said.
Elizabeth nodded. "I understand where Wyatt's coming from. But, you've got to admit it Wyatt- this whole situation is like something out of a romantic fan fiction."
"He's not married, not dating anyone," Allie said. "Looking the way he does, he's either a sociopath or he's gay. My money is on gay."
"Let's just go out and do some shopping like we planned," Wyatt said dismissively. He didn't want to entertain these unrealistic thoughts. He went upstairs and showered off the beach. Dressing in a tank and some shorts, he slid his feet into some flip flops, grabbed his wallet and sunglasses, and went downstairs to wait for the others.
Darren was the first to come down. When he did, he walked up to Wyatt and hugged him. "I'm sorry, man. I know you're feeling overwhelmed. A lot has happened to you and you're just trying to catch your breath."
"Yeah, and in the middle of trying to do that Chris Hemsworth is suddenly around." He stopped and grinned at the irony. "You know, it's funny how you can go your whole life wanting to meet a your crush. Then it happens and all you can do is freak out."
Darren shrugged. "I mean, you like adventure in your life, right?"
"So?" Evans said as he and Robert walked into Chris's room and jumped onto his bed. "Tell us everything."
"Did you kiss him?" Robert asked.
Chris rolled his eyes. "You tell me. I'm sure you were watching the entire time. No. Not yet."
"But soon, right?" Evans asked.
Chris shrugged his shoulders. To be truthful, he wasn't sure when it would happen. He wanted it to. He definitely wanted it. "I want it to happen soon. I just need to figure out the right way and the right timing."
"You're overthinking it. You need to just lead with your heart...or your body...etc," Robert suggested.
"Probably. But I'm also kind of enjoying the fun of this, to be honest."
Robert stroked his mustache. "Ah, yes. The cat and mouse game. I know it well. I take it you're the cat and Wyatt's the mouse."
"Basically," Chris said with a sly grin. "I mean, there are nerves, believe me. I've never done this before with another man."
"I can't help you with figuring that part out," Robert chuckled.
"But we can figure out how to set things up for the big moment," Evans said. "Why don't we get some wine and take it over. Maybe catch them before dinnertime and see if they want to eat together."
"I think they went out," Chris said as he looked out his window. "Their car isn't there now. They'll probably eat out."
"Then we bring them a nightcap," Robert decided. "But you know what might also ease things along"
Chris turned to face the others and nodded. "If I came out to Mark and Jeremy."
"I mean, it's your call, dude. It always is," Evans assured him. "It would just be a lot easier if they knew."
"Yeah, they can help us run interference with Wyatt's friends," Robert added.
"But I'm pretty sure once Wyatt's friends get an idea of what's going on they'll probably help out too," Evans said.
"I don't know," Chris sighed. "It sounds great but I don't want anything getting out. I'm not ready for the world to know."
"Just do what I suggested," Robert said. "Leave no trace and if it ever gets brought up, just deny it."
Chris smiled. "Well. What kind of wine should we bring?"
"I think we should just eat at home," Elizabeth suggested. "We can all cook something and just stay in."
Satisfied with this decision, the four of them made a quick stop at the grocery store before heading back to the beach house. When they got home, Wyatt carried his shopping bags into the house and up into his room. In addition to some clothes, he'd also found a few books he'd had his eye on- some recently published thrillers.
"You are not spending the week reading," Allie had groaned as she walked through the bookstore with him.
"I didn't say I was going to spend the week reading," Wyatt said.
"Good. Because now that a certain Australian actor is eyeing you, you need to focus more on real life," Allie explained. "Which reminds me- we should get you a new bathing suit."
"What's wrong with my suit?"
"Nothing! But I think we can do better."
Wyatt stared at her. "My suit is short and tight. How much better can it get?"
Allie took him by the hand and tugged him out of the bookstore. "Shorter and tighter," she answered.
As he stood in front of his bed and looked at the new suit, he shook his head and chuckled to himself. "Well, that certainly is short and tight," he muttered.
After putting his things away, Wyatt dressed in his new suit and wandered back down to the first floor where the others had already gathered, all of them dressed in their swimsuits. The plan was to give the steaks some time to marinate. While that was happening, the four of them were going to play some volley ball.
"The eagle has landed," Jeremy called out to the others from the kitchen.
No sooner had he said it did Chris, Robert, Evans and Mark come walking into the kitchen and up to the window.
"They're back sooner than I thought they'd be," Chris said. Then he started laughing. "Look at us! The celebrities are stalking the fans."
"Not stalking," Robert corrected. "Just scoping things out. And one of those fans happens to be a budding celebrity himself."
Evans clapped his hands together. "Alright, change of plans. They're putting up a volleyball net. I say we go and ask to play with them."
The idea of a little athleticism mixed with flirtation enticed Chris. Though far from arrogant, he loved to display his athleticism.
"This is perfect," Evans said as the five of them left the house and moved down the steps of the deck. "Perfect opportunity for you to rev things up."
Chris led the way, his eyes taking in the sight of Wyatt and his friends as they finished setting up for a game. Wyatt was dressed in very short, low rise trunks that just clung to his body like a second skin. The trunks were a light purple with a white waistband. His back was to Chris, giving him a great view of the V-shape of his shoulder sand torso and his ass. One look at Wyatt's body and Chris knew that, yes, he was definitely ready to rev things up.
