"Okay, I'm going to need you to stop being so anti," Allie said when they had returned to the beach house and were still in the car.
Wyatt turned to her. "I'm not being anti."
"Oh, you're being so anti."
"How am I being anti? I played volleyball and now we're all going to be eating dinner together. How is that anti?"
"Because Chris clearly has a thing for you and you're so stuck on this tired-ass pity party you can't see it."
Wyatt's eyebrows lifted. "Ouch."
Allie shrugged her shoulders and turned to look out the windshield. The car was silent for a few seconds as they both looked at anything but each other. Wyatt looked down at his hands and lost himself in thought. Was he having an extended pity party? Probably. The sense that he was behaving like a drama queen began to set in on him and he let out a low sigh.
"Listen. I'm sorry," Allie said as she turned in her seat and took his hand. "I don't ever say things to hurt you, you know that."
"Yeah. I probably needed to hear that."
"I was harsh," Allie said. "You lost that role. You went through Brian's double life bullshit and now your celebrity crush is crushing on you. Life is weird for you right now. I understand not being able to keep up and feeling like you can't trust anything in this freaky fun house of mirrors your life has become. But I can see what's happening. That sexy Australian hottie has major eyes for you. And that's a fact. It's undeniable. And, hey, maybe it's just a fling. Maybe it's just for fun. Who cares? Live it up. Because this sort of thing doesn't just happen every day to people. The universe chose you."
Wyatt chuckled and squeezed Allie's hands. "You think?"
"I know. It's all that good karma you've built up from that medical commercial you did that one time. The one where you had to play a patient for that genital herpes medicine."
Wyatt laughed loudly as he thought about that. It took a very long time for his dating life to recover after the commercial went into circulation. Nice paycheck though. "Okay. I'm going to lean into it. You win."
Allie folded her arms over her chest and smiled smugly. "I always win my cases. Now help me take these groceries in. You little bitch."
No sooner had Wyatt and Allie started up the steps to the front door did it swing open. Chris bounded down the steps to help. He'd showered since they'd been gone and was dressed in a tank top and some board shorts. His sexy, bare feet smacked loudly as he came down the steps and plucked the grocery bags out of their hands before Wyatt could protest.
"I guess it's the least you can do for that head injury you gave me," he remarked as he followed Chris up the stairs. His clean, sexy scent hit Wyatt's senses and he shivered despite the heat.
"Just let me know what I can do to make it up to you," Chris replied with a big grin when he stopped in front of the door.
"I'm sure I'll think of something," Wyatt replied with a sly smile as he moved up to the door and opened it. Chris stared at him with thinly-veiled desire. Wyatt briefly looked over at Allie, who smiled and nodded encouragingly from behind Chris before turning around and walking into the house.
Chris's eyes immediately shot down to the small of Wyatt's back, taking in the sexy little dimple on either side before gathering up a full view of his ass.
"Watch your step," Allie said with a grin.
Chris looked at her and winked playfully before following Wyatt into the kitchen. Wyatt walked past the large den where Darren and the others were hanging out.
"Oh, good, you guys are back," Darren said as he got up and helped unload the groceries.
"The grocery was a zoo," Allie explained. "It's a good thing none of you guys went. They'd have eaten you alive."
It had been decided that Robert would man the grill, having announced that he was excellent at grilling. Elizabeth and Darren had already taken care of preparing some of the sides.
"Everyone showered while you were gone," Darren said. "Why don't you guys go get cleaned up and we'll get dinner started."
"Sounds good to me," Allie said.
"No meat for you, Wyatt?" Robert asked as he cut the recently-purchased steaks out of their packages and began seasoning them.
"Not for dinner," Wyatt said with a smile as he pulled a carrot stick from the vegetable tray on the kitchen island and took a loud, crunching bite.
Chris raised his eyebrows and Evans looked over and gave a huge smile.
"How's your head, Wyatt?" Mark asked.
"I've never had any complaints," Wyatt said before popping the rest of the carrot into his mouth. "I'm going to go get cleaned up. Be right back."
As Wyatt walked away, Chris could barely keep his eyes off of his retreating figure.
"What did you do to him while the two of you were gone?" Darren asked.
Allie shrugged. "I beat him up," she teased before becoming serious. "Just one of my little pep talks." She looked over at Chris and winked at him. "You're welcome, by the way."
Wyatt went up to his bedroom and softly closed the door behind him. Once alone, he let out a deep sigh and leaned against his door.
"What the hell am I doing?" he asked himself. Despite the fact that it was pretty clear what was happening, it still felt like a fan fiction come to life. This sort of thing just didn't happen. And yet it was happening. Chris Hemsworth was drinking in the sight of him just as intensely as he was him. The fact that Chris saw him in this light was insanity.
His phone vibrated and when he looked down at the screen he saw that the group message he was in with the others was lighting up like a Christmas tree.
Monkey: Chris talked about you nonstop while you were gone.
Birdie: All good stuff.
Mack: His eyes were on your ass since we got back.
Birdie: Wear something sexy for dinner.
Wyatt smiled nervously and tried to ignore the butterflies he was feeling. "Okay, Wyatt. Time to work your magic," he told himself as he stripped out of his bathing suit and walked into the bathroom.
As he washed up, all he could think about was how much easier this would be if it were anyone but Chris.
"You have to start thinking about him as a guy like any other. So what if he's Chris Hemsworth? He's still a man. He's not a literal god," he reminded himself.
