"I miss you, too," Chris sighed into the phone as he lay in bed. "When I get my hands on you again I'm not letting you go."
"What are you doing for Christmas?" Wyatt asked in a quiet voice. He was standing outside on the back porch, staring out into the woods.
"Just be with the family," Chris explained. "And...wish that you were there."
Wyatt shut his eyes and tried to tell himself that it was ridiculous to entertain thoughts of being upset. He and Chris had made so much progress with their situation. Chris had compromised by telling as many of his close friends and family as he possibly could. Wyatt knew he wished he could do more. And he knew that Chris loved him. Wasn't that enough? He felt so foolish even having a single thought of being sad that he couldn't spend Christmastime with the man he loved. Foolish and selfish.
Chris could sense Wyatt's feelings even if he didn't voice them. "I wish you could be there," he said. "I wish we could spend it together."
"It's okay," Wyatt said. "I understand why we can't."
"It's not okay," Chris countered. "But it's not going to be forever. One of these days I'm going to take you everywhere with me. You'll be on my arm and I won't give a fuck if millions of cameras are flashing at us."
"I love you, Chris," Wyatt said.
"I love you, too."
"I have to go," Wyatt said. "We're about to have thanksgiving dinner."
"Call me later," Chris said.
"I will."
When Wyatt returned to his family, the entire house was ablaze with so many conversations that Wyatt could barely keep up. Rather than try, he simply ate in silence and tried to focus on the sweetness of everyone being together.
"I can't help but feel like there's something wrong," his father said later in the night when they were alone.
"I'm fine," Wyatt said. It was funny to him that he was an actor but his parents knew him so well they could see through any act.
"You're sure? Life has changed so fast for you. You keeping up alright?"
Wyatt nodded. "I am, dad. I promise."
Calvin stared at his son, analyzing him for a few seconds before relaxing into a smile. "Well, I'm going to go and lay down. All that turkey has me exhausted."
Wyatt hugged his dad and hated that he couldn't talk to him about everything. He'd always gone to his parents about his troubles. And now he had to keep them to himself.
The days that followed were mostly spent with family and friends with occasional work-related tasks unveiling themselves. One such task was an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
The moment Wyatt entered the show, he knew that Andy Cohen had an eye on him. The host was flirtatious and constantly smiling at him as he asked questions.
"Okay, next question," Andy said after Wyatt answered a question about filming the action scenes on Halloween. "Marry, shag, kill."
"Okay," Wyatt laughed after taking a drink of his cocktail.
"Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt."
Wyatt knew his face was turning bright red. He could only imagine how amused Chris would be at this question.
"I mean, I may have to work with one of them someday," Wyatt groaned.
The audience cheered him on and Andy watched him expectantly.
