The success of Halloween and the massive increase in exposure and popularity happened so quickly Wyatt was blindsided by it. As his popularity grew, he found himself knee-deep in interviews and a massive amount of publicity. Suddenly everyone was interested in him and wanted to know more about him. With the increase in fame, and in order to be closer to Chris, Wyatt and Opal relocated to California.
Chris watched Wyatt's star rise with a combination of total pride and love as well as a certain degree of trepidation. More success for Wyatt translated to him being more publicly known. Which could only mean it would be significantly harder for them to hide their relationship. The fact that Wyatt approached stardom as an openly gay man could only complicate things further. Though Chris would have liked for Wyatt to keep that a secret, he knew it wouldn't be possible. First, he would never ask that of him; second, Wyatt had lived as a gay man since he was in high school. To further complicate things, Thor: Ragnarok was about to start filming in Australia. Though Chris couldn't wait to get home and see his family, he dreaded the time apart from Wyatt.
Wyatt noticed the added difficulty as well and tried to maintain a brave face for Chris, who was constantly asking if he was okay. Seeing the tremendous concern and love in Chris's eyes always softened Wyatt's fears, making them easier to cope with. And in response to the decrease in their chances to spend time together, they made up for it with constant text messages, phone calls and FaceTimes. The times they met were kind of exciting due to the secretiveness, but Wyatt knew that wouldn't last. Wyatt hated the circumstances, but he found it so hard to fault Chris for it when the man made every single effort he could to show Wyatt how much he loved him.
Despite knowing that he was giving the relationship everything he was able to give it, Chris couldn't help but cast his eyes to the horizon, fearful that a storm was brewing off in the distance; one that threatened to tear apart the love he and Wyatt had been building together. But those fears were tempered each minute he spent with Wyatt, which included watching him on TV. And he made a point of never missing any of his appearances.
"So you used to play Apollo in a soap opera called The Olympians," Ellen Degeneres said to Wyatt when he was a guest on her show.
"Yeah, for a very brief time."
"You know, it's funny you should mention brief because...as the audience can see..."
Wyatt and the audience looked at the big screen to see a still of him wearing nothing but a pair of tight, white briefs. The audience catcalled at the sight of his nearly naked body and Wyatt began to blush and hide his face with a throw pillow.
Chris wanted to be there with him so badly it hurt.
"So you were basically nearly naked in every single scene," Ellen said. "What was that like?"
"Um...it was an experience. And it's probably why the ratings were so awful!"
"Well, I don't know about that. The ladies love you," Ellen said, which prompted the rambunctious crowd of women in the front rows to scream even louder than they already had at the sight of Wyatt during his Apollo days.
Wyatt blushed and shrugged. Then, with a playful grin, he looked over at the crowd and said "well...I love the ladies."
The audience swooned even louder and Ellen held a hand over her mouth and cackled.
"So, I wanted to ask you, being that you're new to the scene- if you had any advice to give someone up and coming, what would it be?"
Wyatt became thoughtful for a second before answering. "Well, don't Google yourself. People are really creative with photoshop."
