The next few months that passed were such a whirlwind of change that Wyatt couldn't imagine what it would be like to not have someone like Chris in a person's life. He could understand Wyatt's new pace of life- the hectic filming schedule, the reshoots, the stunts- and he had plenty of advice to impart. It was a comfort for Wyatt to know he wouldn't be alone in a strange city when he traveled to California for the filming process; Chris was there.

Chris enjoyed taking Wyatt under his wing. Being protective and taking care of him in this way wasn't just his way in relationships with people he cared about; it was also helpful in easing his guilt for not being out with him. He never wanted Wyatt to feel like he was being shortchanged in the relationship. If they couldn't be open to the rest of the world, Chris would do everything he could in other ways. When Wyatt finished a long day of shooting, Chris always had dinner waiting for him. Whenever Wyatt would retreat to his trailer in between scenes, there was always some sort of present waiting for him.

Wyatt may have had Chris as his life preserver but he still felt like he'd been thrown in the deep end in many ways. When he'd arrived at Chris's house- house being a very broad term- he'd been completely blown away by the size of it. He hadn't been wrong in saying Chris's mansion could fit several of his apartments. Then there was the lavish lifestyles of everyone around him. While he'd certainly made good money playing Apollo on The Olympians in addition to commercials and theatre performances, he was still new to the amount of money people spent on even the most trivial items.

Perhaps the most bizarre thing was the way he was treated by everyone. People were incredibly accommodating to him to the point of discomfort. Wyatt had never been waited on like this before. Many of his costars were indifferent to all of the moving parts around them. They behaved as if things simply happened for them without acknowledging it. Wyatt watched them and couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. He'd been raised to work hard for what he wanted and to never just expect things to happen for him. And his parents taught him to appreciate the kindness of others.

"You're a good kid," Jamie Lee Curtis herself said on one occasion when she watched how Wyatt thanked one of the crew and even remembered their name.

Wyatt was utterly starstruck. Having grown up watching this woman and adoring her films, it was completely unreal for him that she was addressing him.

"Don't lose that," she said as she sat down next to him. "It'll serve you well in this business."

"Yes, ma'am," Wyatt had said.

Jamie laughed and gave his arm a playful shove. "Oh, don't call me ma'am. Just Jamie."

First name basis with Jamie Lee Curtis. This is crazy. This is my life.

Jamie had made it a point to spend time with Wyatt whenever she was on set with him. They had several scenes together and they would practice them until they were meticulous. Wyatt paid close attention to her and listened to every piece of advice she had to offer.

"Jamie thinks I'm a good kid," Wyatt explained as he finished a set of dumbbell kickbacks and re-racked the weights. He and Chris were forming out together in Chris's fully-loaded home gym.

"She just doesn't know you like I do," Chris grunted as he lifted the heavy dumbbells, finishing the last in a set of chest presses before dropping them to the floor.

Wyatt walked over to Chris, who continued to lay flat on the bench, his sweat soaked, white muscle t-shirt offering a nice glimpse of his chest and stomach underneath. Wyatt slowly straddled him and Chris reached out and held onto his waist.

"You don't think I'm good?" Wyatt asked with a playful pout.

"Oh, I know you're good. You're very good at being bad."

Wyatt laid his hands on Chris's chest and smiled. "I'm so happy," he admitted. "It's scary to say it out loud because I feel like it's going to get taken away from me or something."

Chris stared up at him with his piercing blue eyes. "It's okay to talk about being happy. I like hearing you say it. I like to think I have a little something do with that."

"You're not supposed to be happy because of a man."

Chris scowled. "Says who?"

Wyatt shrugged. "I don't know."

Chris slowly moved his hand a up and down Wyatt's thighs. "I don't think you should try to find happiness in a person. But I do think a person can make you happy. Like you make me."

Wyatt smiled and for some reason he felt like he might cry. Sending the change in his demeanor, Chris sat up and continued to hold Wyatt on his lap. "Hey," he said in a soft voice as he leaned forward and touched his nose to Wyatt's.

"It's just, I don't know. I spent so long thinking I would never get an opportunity like this. When my show was cancelled I took at as this sign that I wasn't meant to be successful. And then there was Brian. You were right when you said I dated some pricks. I shouldn't have accepted their behavior. I thought that was the only kind of relationship I would have.

"But now, everything is different. I'm in Los Angeles filming a movie with Jamie Lee Curtis. And I'm with you, and you treat me like I matter."

"Because you do," Chris said as he reached for Wyatt's hand and pulled it to his lips to kiss it. "And you deserve all of these things."

Wyatt could feel the words on the top of his tongue and it both terrified and electrified him all at once. No, he thought. Don't say it. Not yet. "What do you want for your birthday?" He said instead, reminding Chris that his birthday was the following week.

"Well, in a perfect world I'd love to be celebrating it back home. But I can't get away. Not right now."

Wyatt nodded in understanding. Chris was going to be out of town doing promotional work but planned to return home on his birthday.

"But, to answer your question more realistically- I'm sure I'll love whatever you get me." He then slowly stood up and maintained a grip around Wyatt's waist. "Now- I think you and I need a shower."

Wyatt sighed to himself as he followed Chris out of the gym and into the adjacent bathroom. His brain was spilled with racing thoughts of various birthday gift ideas while they showered together and all he could keep asking himself was what do you buy for a person like Chris Hemsworth?
