I was here. I was back in my own room. I paced around the place gently, dragging my finger along the furniture that had collected dust, leaving intricate patterns and trails to mark my territory. But no matter how much I starred at everything before me, that sense of delight I was hoping for didn't appear. This wasn't my home anymore, not really. Every time I looked at a corner of the room, an old memory appeared. Nathan shattering glass against the wall, my body being slammed into the door, Vlad's presence - all of it, I wanted none of it. My priority would be to find a new place after I completed my trial test with Nathan. Whether it was in this town, or out of it, I wanted away from this place and everyone that came with it.
It didn't take long for my door to be knocked on, and for Gabe's familiar face to brace me with his presence. I immediately ran into his arms, and I gripped him tight. All it took was seeing a familiar face to make me collapse entirely. I held back the urge to burst into tears, and continued to hold him tight.
"I don't even know where to begin," Gabe sighed, and ran his fingers through my hair, gently pushing it behind my ear. I held onto him tighter. How could two people pick up things again, and feel like they never were apart? We could sit here silently for all I cared, and it would be enough.
I pulled him onto the sofa, and collapsed against his lean frame.
"You start," I said.
He sighed. "Where the fuck have you been?"
"Long story," I awkwardly said, hoping to avoid it. How do you complain about a situation when there was nothing to complain about? "I'm just happy to see you."
"Likewise." His panicked face softened. "Where did you disappear to the night of your party, and then afterwards? Nathan had thought you went missing, but when he never brought it up again, and when he never returned back here, I just assumed you were at his."
"No!" I said, upset that everyone thought I had cozied up to Nathan. Did they all think that lowly of me? Or not even care to check if that was the case?
I briefly explained being taken by Ryder, and kept the details to a minimum and leaving out, well most things. Why was I lying on behalf of Ryder? Probably because I looked like the fool in the if I told the truth and would likely lose a friend in the process.
"Nathan never told me." Gabe defensively replied. "He insisted you were missing and I didn't think anything of it, especially when he didn't bring it up again...fuck, I am so sorry. I got so carried away with Raven... completely sucked into her life that I couldn't think of anything else - I was barely here, unless it was to pick up a new set of clothes. That's no excuse, I know, but you know what it's like to become completely wrapped up in someone else's life, you barely have time for anyone else."
"Don't apologize, she deserves your attention," I replied. "Besides, like I said, Ryder didn't really do anything. I hate saying this, but it felt like a vacation from all this madness that we had been involved."
"Ryder's? Vacation?" Gabe paused, skeptical at my choice of words, but he decided to respect my choice and glaze past it. "And Nathan?"
Gabe left the question in the air. I knew he was wondering if I had flocked back to him but was too polite to ask.
"He's been aggressively insistent that I stay there for my own safety, which is the last thing I want."
And you know, the fact that he threatened to basically serve me Gabe's head on a plate, but Gabe didn't need to know that.
"But it wouldn't hurt if you visited, you know? It'll keep me sane." I paused. "Or even the next time I do disappear for an abnormal amount of time, maybe check Nathan's first?"
