An awkward day one came to an end. Kellen and Kathareena had been less than thrilled to see me, and even less thrilled when Nathan explained I would be residing here for the next three weeks, but it was apparent that everyone was wrapped around his fingers, and Nathan was often met with little to no argument.

I had not seen Matthew, Carter or Mitchell today, which came as a relief... but things did not feel right around here. I felt more on edge than I ever had before. There was an eerie sense of stillness in their 'fortress' and I couldn't exactly place it.

Nathan had dragged me around all day for every little administrative task he had to perform with his father. To no surprise, I was asked to leave the room almost every time. I realized not every day would be full of official duties, as they led normal lives – but wow, was this fucking boring. Could Nathan really not figure it out as he went? Or was he such a lost cause that he needed his hand held. From the glimpses of conversations I caught, Nathan made it a point to consistently argue with Kellen, and I was beginning to think they would never reach an agreement when it came to anything.

Trailing around Nathan like a lost puppy was not going to get me anywhere nor would it speed up my time here. I wanted in on their conversations, and I wanted to hear exactly what they were up to. I needed some type of leverage, and something to protect myself with given the right opportunity. And I suppose, I selfishly wanted to know a few hard-hitting secrets to share with Ryder, given I ever got the chance to confide in him again. I hoped he was okay... I wondered what he thought when he had returned. Had Nathan's guys been there, or did he think I ran away the first chance I got? I tried not to think of him this soon, knowing that he was likely onto his next conquest and I was just a stop along the way, but I couldn't seem to stop.

The next morning began with watching Nathan and Trinity train. I truthfully could not find any purpose for me observing their regimen, but Nathan insisted it was important that I watch. I studied his movements, hoping that if I ever came face to face with Nathan, that I would be able to somehow swiftly swerve around him, but I knew based on his strength and size alone; it would be impossible. I couldn't help but see how everything on him had increased in size, every muscle bursting with more definition than before.

Trinity was pushing herself up against Nathan, desperately trying to get closer to him, which was mildly entertaining and made this all the more enjoyable for myself. Occasionally our eyes would meet, and her eyes would turn into daggers. I wasn't entirely sure where the hatred came from, but I could already tell it was going to be mutual.

Small footsteps entered the kitchen, hitting the tile tap by tap, and I couldn't mistake that movement anywhere: Kathareena.

"You." Was all she said, and I managed to turn around in my seat to see the scowl that painted her face.

"Good morning," I replied.

"How dare you step foot in our home after everything you have done," Kathareena's voice rang, she was burning with rage, and my stomach instantly tightened. She was one woman whose wrath I did not wish to face.

In a brave attempt, I mustered out a few words that I knew would annoy her. "What exactly did I do?"

I saw her begin to tremble, much like Nathan had countless times. What type of game was I playing? I wasn't safe here, so why did I find the need to push everyone's buttons?

"You have destroyed our family." She roared. "You have created a tiff between all my sons, put them in undesirable circumstances, and you come back here with the audacity to pretend you did nothing? You've caused all of this." My stomach tightened remembering many things were my fault. "Everyone is in danger because of you – you backstabbing, treacherous, conniving slut."
