Dyllon's P.O.V

What was Nathan going to do? And why did I care? Matthew probably deserved whatever he had coming to him...but yet I hated the fact that I had come between them.

I aimlessly walked down the hallway, lost in my thoughts about Nathan and his brothers, when I stumbled into Carter. His face was slightly swollen, and a small black bruise marked the area around his eye.

"What happened?" I approached him, tilting my head to examine his face further. "I know for a fact that bruise wasn't there earlier."

"Just Nathan," Carter rolled his eyes. "He wasn't always like this, it's just misplaced anger that he needs to learn to handle."

"You should probably ice that," I suggested.

"It'll be gone within a few hours," Carter shrugged. "Werewolf healing and all."

"I'm sure ice would feel nice in general." I said. "Human practices and all."

He smirked. "Well, let's go to the kitchen and see what we can find."

I nodded and followed behind him, and when we entered the kitchen, he threw me an ice pack. At least he was decent enough to acknowledge that I didn't have their superior healing abilities.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

"For what exactly?"

"Half these problems are because of me." I muttered.

"Don't think like that," Carter said and rested his hand on top of mine. "You just got caught up in an unfortunate situation at the wrong time."

"Does your girlfriend know you're a werewolf?" I asked.

I cringed at the words that spilled out of my mouth. I selfishly wanted to know if Carter was in a relationship, and if he had trusted someone enough to tell them his secret. He had come across as much more affectionate than Matthew and Nathan, and massively more understanding and thoughtful. Was there someone out there who had suffered through dating a werewolf, seeing them transform? Is that why he was able to speak with empathy?

"I don't have one but when I did, she didn't know. It's messy." He paused. "Nathan didn't really have a choice though, he was becoming one, which is the hardest part. The months before and after a transformation are the hardest, and that's when you happened to stumble into his life."

"I just wonder if life would be easier if I didn't know what everyone was," I said.

"No, I don't think it would. They would have to keep lying to you about things." Carter smiled. "And I have a feeling, you're beyond curious and not someone who appreciates being in the dark."

"Touche," I grinned. "Speaking of being in the dark... I'm guessing you wouldn't want to help me find a way out of your giant mansion?"

"Unfortunately, I can't do that," he sighed. "But, I can offer you a hide out for now."

I was hesitant for a moment but he seemed to be the nicest out of all of them. I followed him out of the kitchen, and down the maze of hallways and rooms. He opened the door, and I recognized it as his bedroom.

"Your bedroom?" I gulped.

"I'll happily leave, and let you have it to yourself."

"No," I quickly stammered. "I'm just being-"

"Cautious." He finished for me. "And understandably so. Don't worry about it, I'm not offended."

I nodded. I made my way over to a sofa he had placed by the window, and curled my body into it. He took a seat on the ground, giving us a divide in space. I could feel the drowsiness taking over, and I was ready for it to all be over. All of this.
