Damien's P.O.V
I had heard her return to her room last night, but I knew I had to give her space. I'd go over, apologize, and explain my irrational thinking... somehow try to save face and make light of the situation, but instead I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw her exiting her room... with the last person I expected.
Ryder.
A low snarl escaped my mouth, and their heads both snapped up. Her joyous smile instantly fell upon meeting my gaze, and the mood in the room completely shifted.
I gave her a once over, my eyes catching on the low-cut midnight blue silk that wrapped around her, her coat draped over her shoulders, and her grasp tightly clutched around a bejewelled purse. Her hair was swept back into a low bun, with thin wisps framing her delicate face. She was devastatingly beautiful. Her face was clouded with guilt, and a touch of fear, and then there was Ryder, who gave me what I could only describe as a smug grin.
It took me a second for my brain to register what I was seeing, for the pieces to click, and for my words to form into a proper sentence, trying to push down the rage and anger that were beginning to rush to the surface.
"You told me you were seeing someone," I said, her words from the other day clicking into place. More things started to make sense - her reaction when I kissed her, avoiding talking about the last time she was taken, her secretiveness as of late, her behaviour in general...I was pissed. I had chalked it up to being in Nathan's chokehold, but once again, I had been wrong. I could feel the anger pulsing through me, and I didn't know who to be angry with. She had been so happy as of late, and here I was, thinking that was because of me.
"Damien-" she paused. "It's not what it looks like."
"Of all the people." I snarled. "Tell me how what I'm seeing, isn't what it looks like."
She frowned, and my chest continued to heave with anger. I could feel my demon form emerging from all the built up rage. I was fighting the temptation to let it take over, but it was proving difficult, as I watched Ryder place himself in front of her. I scoffed. He thought he had to protect her from me? It was him who I was going to shred to pieces.
"I am talking to Dyllon," I huffed. "Not you."
"If you want to talk to her, you'll have to do it with me in front of her. We all know the amount of damage a demon can inflict."
That set me off. I couldn't hold anything back anymore.
"Please," Dyllon said. "Please, calm down."
"You've got to be kidding me. Calm down? You want me to calm down?" I yelled. "You're dating our enemy, and playing us all at the same time."
"It's not like that." She whimpered, and Ryder's arms went up as if I was going to strike. "Please, let's just talk. I can explain."
"I've seen all I need to see," I shook my head.
"Ryder," she said. "Please, you need to go. I can handle this myself, he won't hurt me."
"Yes, he will." Ryder said pulling her close. "You don't know the disgusting things their kind can do."
"Please," she begged him. "Trust me. I trust him."
She gripped his hand, and he took one look at the both of us, and I knew it caused him a great deal of pain to walk away, but he was doing it for her. Because of course, where Nathan had controlled her and never trusted her, Ryder was the complete opposite, so of course she fell for the jackass. Couldn't she see the game he was playing?
"I'll wait downstairs, and if you aren't down in five minutes, I'm coming back up because then I know something has happened."
She nodded, and he kissed her hand before breaking their embrace. And that insinuation that I would physically harm her made me even angrier. She watched as he left, and waited for the elevator doors to close, and then she returned her eyes to me.
