"How was your exam?" Y/n's mom asked as soon as she stepped inside the house.
"It was a great mom. By the way, I have a question." Y/n said as she plopped herself on the couch in the living room while throwing her bag somewhere in the corner of the room.
"What is it?"
"Umm, can you please tell-"
"Hey, champ! How was your exam?" asked her father who just entered the living room. It was almost thirty past four and her dad was having some coffee.
"It was good dad. I-"
"That's great. Then go and get fresh and we can go out for dinner. What say?" her father asked her and her mom and both of them immediately agreed. Although Y/n immediately agreed to her father's offer, she was still a bit disappointed that she couldn't even get a chance to ask her question. She anyway shrugged that thought away and started preparing for the little dinner that her father was taking them for. She freshened up, got ready, and headed downstairs where her parents were already waiting. It was now thirty past five and they are leaving for dinner; the restaurant was quite far away from their house therefore they left early to reach the place on time.
-----
Sitting at one of the tables situated at the extreme corner of the restaurant, she looked at her parents who were busy talking and smiling about something. She never really took any interest in her parent's conversations and neither did she now, so after waiting for some ten to fifteen minutes in hope that the food will arrive soon when it never did, she got bored. Taking out her phone, scrolling through some news she comes across one headline that gained her attention. It said-
"TWO TEENAGERS WENT MISSING WHO WERE REPORTED TO BE LAST SPOTTED NEAR THE DEMON'S DEN AROUND 3:30 P.M."
Demon's Den; it's the same place where she went in the afternoon after her exam. Everything seemed normal about that place except but for that mysterious guy that stopped her from crossing the river. As her mind filled up with curiosity to know what actually happened, she read the whole news.
After reading that long ass article she found that those teenagers were just like her; highly motivated and curious to know about the 'parallel world'. The thing that she couldn't wrap her head around was that around the time the kids got abducted, she had just left the place and wasn't even far from that area that she wouldn't hear their screams or cries for help. A normal person getting abducted would do that right? Also, the mysterious guy that came out of nowhere and stopped her from crossing the river, where was he when those teenagers got abducted? The way he talked to Y/n, he seemed pretty confident and was desperate for her to leave. With all these thoughts running through her mind she was suddenly brought back from her imagination when her mom called her as the waiter had already served the dinner.
After taking a good time savoring their dinner, it was now time to go back home. As soon as she finished her dinner she walked out of the restaurant whereas her parents were still inside, paying the bill. As she was standing near their car, she could feel someone looking at her, more like glaring at her. The restaurant was on the outskirts of the town which made it quite isolated from the civilization. There were very few people that were walking around and the people that Y/n saw walking around seemed to be very busy in their own world to even look at her. She thought she was just not feeling well maybe as the journey was quite long and that was the reason why she felt like that, but after few minutes when her parents didn't come out and the people that were near the restaurant started leaving, she started to get anxious. She was still feeling someone's eyes pierce through her body but couldn't actually figure out from where and by whom she was watched.
She looked around for a while in hopes of finding that shitty person that was giving her these creeps before completely turning around and looking straight at the dark tree line from where the dense woods started. Her eyes roamed every corner of the tree line although she couldn't see properly in the dark, but she was sure that she saw a black figure standing at least fifty to seventy meters inside the woods from the tree line. She was so lost in her trance that she no more knew what she was doing. As if her legs started moving on their own, she felt herself being pulled towards this black figure. Her feet were showing no sign of stopping and she was almost like a walking dead who had no control over their body and she kept on moving towards the silhouette. As the distance between her and the tree line started to decrease she saw the figure move further and further into the woods as if asking Y/n to come to them, chase them. But to that creepy figure's dismay and to Y/n's luck, her father grabbed her arm and turned her around before she could go any further.
"Where were you going Y/n? Are you out of your mind? That's literally a dense woods." Y/n's dad whisper yelled, totally scared and surprised.
"I- I am sorry dad. I- I just- dad I don't know what happened to me. I-" Y/n stuttered while speaking which obviously didn't go unnoticed by her father and he could understand that his daughter was scared.
"It's ok. Calm down. We will go home first and then we will talk about this, yeah?"
Y/n just nodded to her dad's words and they both made their way to their parked car where Y/n's mother was standing; totally worried by her daughter's weird behavior.
-----
She was quietly sitting on the couch and her parents sat in front of her on the armchairs. The whole car ride to home was filled with awkward silence as neither of them spoke anything; just her father would check up on her from time to time through the rearview mirror making sure that his 'only' daughter was okay.
"Take your time and tell us what happened hun." Y/n's mom sweetly asked her daughter to explain everything.
"I- I don't know how to explain it, mom. It was pretty weird. Like there was this person, it was dark, they- they were standing in the dark, in the woods and- and it felt as if they were calling me. I didn't know what I was doing at that moment; I had no control over my actions. I- I don't know what would have happened if dad didn't stop me."
Y/n's parents could very well tell that their daughter was quite paranoid at the thought of all the possibilities that might have occurred if her dad didn't stop her, by the way she was talking. So they didn't question her more about it as it was already starting to affect Y/n. They advised her that she should take some rest or do something that she likes in order to keep herself busy so that the memories of tonight don't bother her in the future. Y/n as well thought the same; she believed, keeping herself busy and doing what makes her happy would help her forget whatever happened today.
