TWENTY-EIGHT

Y/n almost dropped her phone after listening to the officer. 'What did he mean by they found her bones in the backyard of her house?' she thought.

"What do you mean officer? What bones? I mean, I don't understand anything."

"Ms. Y/n, all we are saying is that we have found your grandma's bones buried in the backyard of her house. We-"

"How do you know it's my grandma's? It could be of some animal as well."

"We ran a forensic test miss. We found some strands of your grandma's hair as well and we did go for a DNA test and it matched. So yeah, we will be needing you here miss. We want to be done with the formalities and also, you have to decide what you want to do with the house as you are the only remaining heir of the family."

"Ye- yeah. I will be there, by tonight." Y/n replied while sobbing. She felt a painful pang in her chest. She lost everyone that she loved and now she was afraid of falling in love. She could not bring herself to the thought of loving someone anymore as she feared that even they might die as well just like how all her family members did; one by one.

Putting the phone in her purse and walking out of the building, tears never stopped flowing down her rose-tinted cheeks. She cried; cried so bad that her eyes were completely red in almost no time. She did not even bother taking a cab ride to home. She was so broken that she did not even realize what was going on around her; in her surroundings. She felt useless for the first time in her life and she hated the fact that she even existed. She cursed herself for even being born; if she never existed, this would have never happened. Isn't it?

She for a reason, deep down, knew that it was that Namjoon guy behind all of these. She was not sure of course, but somewhere she felt it was him. He was the one that was stalking her and therefore, he knew all her whereabouts. So it was not completely wrong on her side to think that Namjoon was behind all of these and also, as far as she knew, he is not any normal person like her or any other human being. But, it could be the other guy as well, isn't it? Her steps halted as the thought crossed her mind.

What if she trusted the wrong person? What if it's all a façade that he shows her to gain her trust? What if he is teamed up with Namjoon and all this is just an act?

There were so many 'what ifs' and she did not have the answer to any of them. The loud honking sound of the car behind her brought her out of her trance. Y/n literally was lost in her thoughts in the middle of the road; dumb! She hurriedly moved away from the road and bowed to the driver while mumbling a small 'sorry' and then walking ahead towards her house.

The walk from her workplace to her house was not pleasant at all. The happiness of getting a job was suppressed by the grief of losing her grandma. At least till the phone call, she knew that her grandma was present somewhere but the news of her grandma's death totally broke her down. The twenty minutes walking distance seemed to be the longest she has ever travelled. It was as if the journey would never end and her legs would give up soon. She somehow dragged her feet to her residential building and as soon as she stepped in the lift and the door closed, she could not hold her tears anymore. She cried her heart out and luckily there was no one except her in the lift at that moment. She could feel her insides churning with the rise of the immense pain in her chest.

Upon reaching her destination, she quickly got out of the lift and made her way to her flat but instead of going towards her flat, she straight ran into someone's hard chest. 'Is that flesh and bones or stack of bricks?' she thought. As she looked up, her eyes met with the most adorable pair of eyes that she has ever seen and soon she realized who he was; he was no one else but her boss's friend, probably. This time she did not get distracted by him for pretty obvious reasons and therefore she quickly apologized to him and made her way towards the door of her flat but she stopped upon realizing something. She will not be able to join the work from the next day as she would be visiting her grandma's town and she had to inform her boss about it but she did not know how to. So she thought of informing her boss's friend and asking him to convey the message.

"Hey! Excuse me!" Y/n called him while turning around and facing him and he immediately stopped on the spot and turned around to face her. As he turned around to find her looking at him, he pointed his index finger towards him; asking Y/n if he was the one that she was calling.

"Yeah, y-you. You are Pa- Park Jimin's friend, right? You were th- there in the off-"

"Yeah, he is my cousin. You came for the interview today, right? How may I help you?" he questioned while cutting her off mid-sentence.

"Yes. Can you please inform him that due to some is- issues I won't be able to join from tomorrow? I will come to work from the day after tomorrow. Please?"

"Okay, I will. But, what should I tell him if he asks for the reason?"

"Tell him that I will be out of station. There's really an emergency, so I have to leave."

"Mhm, okay! No worries. By the way, what's your name?"

"Y/n."

"Cool. I am Jungkook."

'Jungkook; that's a nice name.' Y/n thought.

These two bowed to each other and took their leave. He went inside the lift and on the other hand, she hastily opened the door to her flat; she had to leave to visit her grandma's town. As soon as she entered the house, she did not even bother getting freshened up and immediately headed to her bedroom to pack her things for a night's stay in her grandma's town. After she was done, she quickly grabbed her bag and left the house in her office clothes. Taking a taxi and heading to the metro station, she already had her tickets booked on her way. After paying the driver, she went inside the station to find it completely crowded. There were so many people present in the station and as she was new to the place, she did not have any idea about it and you can say that she was kind of lost. Somehow, squeezing herself through the crowd she could finally find the electronic display board that showed when, which train would be arriving. Upon looking up at it, she realized that she has arrived a bit early and now she has to wait for some forty minutes for her train to arrive.
