"What is it Y/n? Why are sitting outside like this?" Y/n's father asked with worry written all over his face after seeing his daughter sitting and sobbing in front of the door.

"Dad- dad there's someone in the house. Dad, I am scared." Y/n spoke while still hugging her father like a koala. Her dad seemed really concerned about it as she has never behaved like this ever before. Seeing his daughter act like this, he was surprised as well as a bit scared.

"Okay. I'll see who it is. Let's go inside yeah? I am with you now."

Y/n just vigorously shook her head, indicating that she doesn't want to go inside. "No! Please don't go inside. Let's- let's call the police."

"Calm down Y/n. You stay here okay? Stand away from the door, I'll go inside and check."

Even after requesting her father to not go inside, her father didn't listen to her. He asked Y/n to stand outside the house while he went inside to check what it was that scared his daughter.

-----

Almost fifteen to twenty minutes have passed and Y/n was still standing outside the house; waiting for her father to show up. She at one point thought of going inside and checking if everything was fine, but she couldn't gather up the courage to do so. After waiting for a couple more minutes, she saw her dad come out of the house.

"I have checked all the corners of the house and even the backyard Y/n but there's no one."

"A- are you sure dad? There is no one?"

Her dad just simply nodded to her question and asked her to follow him inside the house.

She just quietly followed her father inside the house; walking behind him and looking around just to make sure that there's really no one present in the house. On reaching the living room, they sat on the couch and her father began asking questions to her.

"Ok, so Y/n; tell me what did you see?"

"I- I didn't see anything dad, I heard. It started when I was still out; walking around the neighborhood. I was coming back home when I suddenly heard footsteps out of nowhere that seemed to be following me. I turned around t- to see who it was, but I saw no one. There was no one behind me. I ran to our block and when I got inside I started hearing knocks on the windows and then suddenly I heard someone walk on the first floor Dad. I really kept all the doors and windows locked when I went out for a walk, so how even was it possible for someone to break into the house?" Y/n was explaining to her father what she experienced and her father seemed to be very calm about it. Y/n could sense the change in behavior of her father; earlier he was pretty concerned about her being scared, but now he seems very calm.

"But Y/n there's no one. I literally checked the whole house."

"They might have fled dad. When I was sitting outside the door I clearly heard someone hum from the other side of the door. Dad, trust me; I am not lying. It felt as if they were sitting just by the door and humming."

Her father just chuckled at her words while slightly shaking his head. This of course broke Y/n's heart as she could really see that her dad did not believe in her and thought that she was lying.

"See Y/n; I guess that incident from the other night when we went out for dinner had a huge impact on you and just because of that, you are feeling this way. I am sure it's nothing serious and all you need is a little break."

"But da-"

"I would suggest you to visit your grandma maybe you know. You'll be away from here, get your head off these things and then return back; I am sure that'll help."

As these two were having a talk they heard Y/n's mother's car pull up. After a couple of minutes her mother walked in and was kind of surprised seeing her husband still in his suit; ones he wears to work, and her daughter sitting in the living room with a very serious expression. Walking inside with eyebrows slightly knitted she asked them what was wrong.

"Y/n says there was someone in the house when she was alone. She felt someone followed her home." Y/n's father spoke; totally calm.

Listening to it, Y/n's mother frowned. It was very unlikely for her daughter to say things like this. Her mom didn't react at all and just simply smiled saying the same words that Y/n's dad said earlier, but she knew that her daughter wouldn't lie about something so serious.

-----

The night seemed very long for Y/n. After what happened in the evening, she had been petrified. She didn't even have dinner because of it. Every time she was on the ground floor of the house, she felt someone was watching her when there was no one present except but for her parents and herself. She was currently in her bed and the time was around eleven in the night. After the two terrifying incidents that she went through, she has become very much conscious about her surroundings. Even at the slightest sound, her ears would perk up and she tried to listen closely to what it was or from where the sound was coming. Now that she was lying on her bed, she could hear someone walk up the stairs. She knew that her parents slept early as both of them had to leave for work early in the morning. She suddenly became very scared as she thought it was again that 'same thing' that stalked her and that is when she heard a knock on her bedroom door. As soon as those taps on the wooden door reached her ears, she tugged on her duvet, pulling it closer to her chest and waiting for 'it' to make the next move. The knocks continued for few more seconds that is when she heard her mother call her.

"Y/n? Hun? Open the door."

As soon as she heard her mom's voice, she relaxed. Getting up quickly from her bed, she opened the door and saw her mom standing at her bedroom door with a bowl of fruit salad.

"You didn't have dinner hun, so I brought you some fruits."

"But, why are you up late?" she asked while taking the bowl from her mother's hand and asking her to come inside.

"I had some extra work today, so I had to stay up late; also you didn't eat anything so I thought I'll just get you some fruits." her mom says while sitting on the bed. Time was going pretty well for the mother-daughter duo as they sat together and were having small talks when her mother asked her about what happened in the evening. Upon hearing the question Y/n became a little bit uncomfortable thinking that her mother would as well take it lightly just like her father did.

"Hey, I know what you are thinking. Don't hesitate, baby just tell me what it was. You know that I'll always be with you right?" hearing that Y/n passed her mom a small smile and began explaining everything to her mother.

Upon hearing the whole story, her mother couldn't understand why her husband would take this lightly. She could see in Y/n's eyes that she was scared of whatever happened to her. When Y/n let her mother know that her father suggested she should stay with her grandma for a few days, her mom quickly agreed to the decision. Even she thought that keeping Y/n away from this place would help her to get back to normalcy but what they didn't know was that the days that were ahead of them held much dread for them.
