Y/n being a very quiet girl never had friends that she could hang out with or open up to regarding her problems or shit she was going through. Hence, even now when she was kind of paranoid about what happened to her near the woods, she didn't have anyone to stand by her side. Her parents were busy in their lives; her mother was a doctor and her father was an investment banker. Their jobs kept them busy almost all of the time which left Y/n alone. It was not like her parents never stood by her or supported her, but the time that they spent together as a family was very little.
-----
Y/n was strolling around in the neighborhood; that's what she has been doing these days to take her mind off the incident that happened the other night. These days she rarely stays out of her house till late in the evening. It was almost six in the evening and the streets were empty. She could see people inside their houses, few dogs playing in the yards, and could only hear kids yelling and laughing in the nearby park, but she couldn't see anyone on the streets. As soon as she saw the time she knew that she can't stay out any longer as the sun was about to go down. She started walking towards her house when she heard footsteps behind her. Being over-conscious about her surrounding after that night, she turned around to check who it was. As she lived in a well-populated area with decent families, she was kind of sure that it would be someone from her neighbours returning from work, but as she turned back her eyes fell on the empty cross-section of the road that she just crossed. There was no one behind her and also she suddenly stopped hearing the footsteps. She squinted her eyes and tried looking through the gaps between the small trees and the houses in the neighborhood but she found no one. She was pretty anxious at this point and without standing there and wasting time, trying to find whose footsteps she heard, she started walking back to her house at a pretty good pace. She again started hearing footsteps behind her but this time she didn't stop; she instead started slow jogging towards her house. Her house was just a few blocks away but at this moment it felt as if her house was miles away and she wouldn't be able to make it to her house and will surely be held captive by whatever was behind her.
When she was just two blocks away from her house she felt the presence of someone just behind her. She could tell that whatever was behind her was just two to three feet away from her now and without thinking twice or turning back, she just sprinted to her house. Upon reaching her house, she immediately got in and closed the door. She was sweating and panting as she literally ran to her house, so she slid down the door and sat on the floor; trying to catch her breath. She sat there for two minutes and finally got up to go to her room but as she was walking away from the door, she heard a soft knock on the glass beside the door that helped them to see who was standing at the door. Upon hearing the knock, she immediately stopped on her track; contemplating whether to look back or not. Her parents were not coming home anytime soon; her mother's shift ends at eight whereas her father comes back at seven and the time right now was ten past six. They of course rarely had guests and even if they had guests, no one knocks on the glass when there's an option for ringing the doorbell. With a lot of gathered up courage, she turned back and looked straight through the long, narrow glass windows to see who knocked. As she was looking through the windows beside the door, she started to slowly walk towards it; of course to get a clear view of the outside. She was now standing in front of one of the glass windows and examining the front porch of their house when she heard another soft knock on the living room window. As soon as she heard the knock, her head snapped towards the window from where the sound came, but to her horror, she saw no one. The situation that she was in right at that moment was horrifying. She could clearly hear knocks on the windows but she couldn't see anyone.
She walked towards the window on which she heard the second knock to see if anyone was pulling a prank on her and trying to scare her by knocking on windows and then immediately fleeing from there. She stood near the window for some seconds when she heard knocks on the window beside the door again and at this point, she was totally petrified. All she did was just pray for her father to return soon. She quietly backed away from the window and stood in the middle of the living room when she clearly heard someone walk on the first floor of their house. All the doors were closed and so were the windows in the house and she very well remembered locking the main door before she went for a walk. Her house had some high-tech security which made it next to impossible for anyone to break into their house; so how was it even possible that someone was currently walking around on the first floor when she is home alone? She was still standing in the middle of the living room in complete horror and then she suddenly heard the footsteps coming down the stairs. It was at this moment, she knew she had to run out of her house and she had no other option.
She immediately grabbed her phone and ran out of the house and as soon as she was outside, she closed the door in hopes that whatever is present in the house wouldn't be able to come out. She sat on the steps just outside the door and tried calling her father when she started hearing a humming sound in a very deep voice coming from just the opposite side of the door. She immediately dialed her father's number and to her luck, her father picked up the call.
"Da- dad. Where are you? How long will you take to come home?"
"I am almost about to reach princess. What's the matter? Do you want me to bring something for you?"
Her father asked her in a way a father would ask his three year old kid if they wanted a bar of chocolate.
"I don't want anything dad, I just want you to come home soon. Please."
Her father could very well figure out that his daughter had gone through something or is going through something as he could clearly hear the little sobs coming from the other side of the phone.
"O- okay! Okay, I am almost there; just a couple more minutes."
As soon as Y/n heard that, she cut the call. She was relieved hearing that her father would be reaching soon but she was still petrified as the humming on the other side of the door didn't stop. She sat at the doorstep for two more minutes when she saw her father's car pull up. As soon as they saw each other, Y/n ran into her dad's arms and her dad without any questions immediately hugged her back.
