Jennie was buried in her work, her hands busy sorting through stacks of papers on her desk. Despite her focus, her eyes kept drifting to her phone, hoping for an update from Lisa, who had left for Jeju that morning. The silence from Lisa was deafening, and a sense of sadness settled over her. She knew she had to get used to being apart from Lisa, but it was a difficult adjustment.
As Jennie was lost in her thoughts, her phone vibrated. It was Irene calling. She quickly answered.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Jennie! We're at Wendy's house. It's been a few days since we last saw each other, so let's have dinner tonight. Finish your work and come join us."
"But, I..." Jennie began to protest.
Before she could finish, Irene cut her off. "I know you're not used to being without Lisa, but you need a break. I invited you, and you have to come. That's final."
"Okay, I'll try, Irene."
"No, not this time, Jennie. You're coming. Bye, see you! Muah!" Irene hung up, leaving no room for further discussion.
Jennie put the phone down and took a deep breath, leaning back in her chair. Staring at the ceiling, she felt a tear escape down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away, pushing her emotions aside to finish her work before dinner.
The entire day passed without a single call or message from Lisa. Jennie kept glancing at her wristwatch, the absence of contact weighing heavily on her heart. Finally, she realized it was time to head to Wendy's place.
With a heavy sigh, she gathered her things and prepared to leave, hoping that an evening with friends might provide some much-needed distraction.
As Jennie arrived at Wendy's house, she was greeted with warm smiles and hugs from her friends, Jisoo was also present at the dinner. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and Jennie quickly felt at ease among her friends.
Jennie couldn’t help wonder, “I thought it just dinner but why looks like celebrating or something?”
Wendy got her seated on the chair and said, “Have patience, my dear friend. You will get to know everything.”
As the evening progressed, Jennie noticed a sense of excitement in the air, as if there was something more to the dinner than just good food and company. But she shrugged it off, attributing it to her friends' infectious energy.
Suddenly, Irene stood up and clinked her glass, calling for her friends attention. "Before we dig into dinner, I have a little surprise for our guest of honor," she announced, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Jennie's heart skipped a beat as she exchanged puzzled glances with her friends. What could the surprise be?
Before she could dwell on it further, the doorbell rang, and Irene disappeared to answer it. Moments later, she returned with a familiar figure by her side.
"Surprise!" Irene exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she revealed V standing beside her.
Jennie's breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight of V, a sheepish grin playing on his lips.
As Jennie glanced at her friends, who were bubbling with excitement, a wave of panic hit her. How could she explain that she had already met V several times and spent plenty of time together? The truth could unravel everything.
V seemed to read her turmoil. With a swift, determined motion, he crossed the room and pulled Jennie into a tight hug, her heart pounding against his chest. The embrace was intense, a mix of longing and urgency.
