When you came back from the SHIELD headquarters, it was quite late in the evening.

The black SUVs left you in front of the mai entrance of the Stark tower and the team piled in the lobby. Natasha and Stark stopped at the security gate and talked quickly with the standing guard, coming back with a badge for you. "Just for tonight" Natasha told you, handing out the small piece of plastic. You got a glimpse of a well build security man glowering in your direction and tapping his own badge as invitation to keep yours well visible. You followed the indication and pinned the badge on your shirt, obediently.

Natasha steered you into the elevator at the back of the reception area. You stayed silent the entire ride up the tower, reading curiously the indications on the blue screen at the top of the doors. You stepped out in what looked like a huge living room. A big glass wall was opening on the entire NY city skyline, the city lights glittering in a breathtaking view. Everything looked extremely elegant and expensive; the TV screen was ridiculously enormous and too many couches and comfy armchairs were spread around it.

"Natasha, will you be so kind to show Y/N one of the spare rooms?" Rogers asked. "Come with me Y/N" she simply replied, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and walking you back to the elevator.

"Stark, can we have pizza?" You heard Thor asking brightly before the elevator doors closed.

Natasha walked you down to a long corridor. "The rooms are all on this floor. Girls on left, boys on the right." She explained simply. She stopped in front of one of the doors, opened it and held it opened for you.

You slipped into what would have been your new room. It was quite spacious and elegantly designed, with a small entrance with a working desk and a small library before the real bedroom, and a private bathroom. Not bad at all.

Natasha promised to drive you to your previous home and also to the mall one of the upcoming days, so you could have had bring back your personal stuff or bought new things, everything that would have been needed to make you feel at home. She was really kind with you, and you deeply appreciated her for that. You warmly and sincerely thanked her when she left, closing the door behind her shoulders and saying they would be all waiting for you downstairs when you would have been ready.

It took some time and plenty of running hot water under the shower to pull yourself together again.

You were indeed greeted warmly by everyone downstairs. "We got pizza!" Clint called. The entire group was sitting on big cushions spread around the coffee table, opening the pizza boxes and setting up a table game.

They waved you over and you settled on the pillow that were left open for you, between Natasha and Loki. You stiffened when you realized you had to sit near him but you had the impression he had stiffened too when you sat down. You deliberately ignored it.

You actually enjoyed the companionship. None of them pushed you further to tell more about your past and you were really glad for that.

The game was funny and stupid, though Thor and Stark were terrible out of it. Everyone complained when Loki won, accusing he cheated. He titled his head and grinned "Hey, what did you expect?" spreading his arms wide open. Everyone laughed. You understood why he was nicknamed trickster.

You slept only few hours that night. You had fearful nightmares about the wormhole and the alien attack that make you sit abruptly on the bed, cold sweat tickling your neck.

No longer able to bear where those images were taking your mind, you woke up completely very early in the morning, it was not dawn yet. Putting down the hope to rest any longer, you took a shower, tied your long hairs in a side braid, and dressed up in the most comfortable suit pants and a white t-shirt you were able to find in the closet. They were slightly oversized, so you tied a small knot in the t-shirt.

You took a glance in the big mirror in front of the closet and you sighed. You have never been an outstanding kind, nor by appearance nor by behavior: you always lived your life in basic jeans, t-shirt and hoodies. You were small and thin, and the only really noticeable thing in your look were probably your waist-long, softly waived, ash blond hair, even if they were surely less outstanding when you keep them tied in high ponytails, buns or braids. Which meant basically all the time. Despite you didn't dislike completely to train or play sports, you couldn't really define yourself as athletic.

You couldn't helplessly think that your delicate, pixie-like frame would have fit that bunch of muscular and ridiculously athletic superheroes like neither here nor there.

But they picked you up indeed. They had choose to have you on board. So now it was your time to step up and make them really appreciate you and your skills, to show them you could have been a pleasant presence in the house and not just a burden. After all, you were not new at endurance and resilience.

You steeled yourself in front of the mirror.

You left your room and went straight to the kitchen. If anything, you could have started to prove to be a good flatmate and able to live among people preparing the breakfast for your still asleep fellows.
