Fury barked at the agents to immediately start to investigate about the men who had tailed you and they all rushed away. He murmured something under his breath leaving the room after them, something you did not completely understand about the fact troubles still come around.
When the Captain told you were picked up by the SHIELD and offered to live with the Avengers, to join the team, you stared at him open-mouthed.
"What?!" you sputtered in disbelief, a few seconds of shock later.
You were already expecting to be asked to work for the SHIELD, even to being sent somewhere around the world joining the army medical units, anything but being asked to be part of the most famous, claimed, and popular action team in the world.
"Look, I jumped in, helped your lot, but that's all. I am not a fighter" you hopelessly try to explain.
"Y/N, you have exceptional healing powers that go far beyond the help Banner can offer. No offense, Doc!" The Captain gently explained turning briefly to Bruce and looking back hopefully at you. Banner firmly nodded. "That's true" he simply replied, waving a hand in Captain's direction.
"You could come in handy when we are back from missions, you can guess on your own...especially for Clint who always manages to get shot, don't you?" Natasha teased openly Clint, who huffed and rolled his eyes.
You opened your mouth to reply to something, but you closed it straightforwardly, unable to pull out any reasonable word. A whirlwind of thoughts was foggy your mind that much, that you fought back the instinct to pinch hard a random part of your body to check if that was a dream, a nightmare, or reality.
"But... I am not trained to fight, I am barely able to defend myself. Look at you all: you are powerful, heroics, even demigods!" You caught a glimpse of both Thor and Loki grinning and tilting their heads at your statement.
"You would do well to join the team" Natasha insisted, her tone gentle. "We can train you and keep you safe from Hydra at the same time"
"And no one is going to throw you in the middle of the next mission" the Captain added, laughing softly.
"Lady, I fear you have too much power to be out in the world alone" Thor bid with his usual boisterous thunderer.
You saw Loki nodding in assent also at his brother's words. He stood up and paced to reach you out. "I reckon you may not have realized that fully" he added.
He was the last living soul on Earth you should go around and thus, now that you met him in person and saw how firmly he took your defenses, you had to admit to yourself he was not that bad. Plus, he was so attractive, almost magnetic: you felt a weird, powerful connection when he was around.
"We can even restart your medical research. Tony and I can find some space for you down in the Lab and even provide some help, if you may like the idea" Banner added in such a sweet way, you couldn't help to small smile at him.
"So, what do you think?" The Captain bid you, eager and hesitant about your final answer.
You steeled yourself and you still don't know where you found the courage. You gulped and simply but fondly replied "Ok".
