You did not complain nor protest in being questioned deeply.

It was clear that you couldn't have retured to your previuos, common life anyhow. You wouldn't have known were to go or where to hide: your cover had been thrown to the winds. But you knew you did the right thing so regret was the lower percentage of the emotions you felt.

Given the circumstances, it was reasonably safer and wiser to behave yourself and await the SHIELD decision about you. Hoping that would not have been the jail. Or worse.

The SHIELD had already collected all the background about your life, since the childhood to your brilliant academic career, but apparently your low profile about your abilities was indeed successfully as they didn't had any hint of them before that day.

During the lively discussion, Loki standed up for you a couple of times, remarking about how bravely you jumped in the battle and actually saved his brother. Thor didn't add much more, but he confirmed everything. Nathasha and Clint also witnessed in your favor, having them actually seen your actions (Clint told he was positioned on the top of the hospital roof).

When the Captain supplied the key question, so if your were an enhanced, you sighed heavily. The time to supply the Avengers with some explanations was come.

"I am not sure what 'enhanced' means, Captain, but if you are asking if I have powers, yes that's correct. I can heal myself and other people, and cast protective shields."

You frowned. One of the things you disliked the most was to going over that story. Especially in front a room full of federals and celebrities.

"These abilities appeared unexpectedly during the NY events, last year. I was on the field when my group was attacked by those things... the aliens... and I, even unwillingly, casted the first shield."

You were even more uncomfortable now that the entire room was in complete silence, taking in each of your words and movements. You shifted on the chair and started to nervously prickle your thumbs.

"When everything was over, I came back to my normal life and work. At least as much as possible. I then realized that my patients were all healing quickly and completely when I was around... I started to feel my powers grow in me. But I was a fool and couldn't help myself in testing my healing abilities and put a spark of them in my researches. Until a bunch of men came to the Lab one day, offering my manager to financiate the next steps. They all had a pin on their jacket with a blood-red octopus."

"HYDRA" Captain and Fury hissed with one voice. Some of the agents started to whispers leaning toward each other, browsing intensely through the paper dossiers or tapping quickly on the pads they snapped open on the table.

You gravely nodded. "My manager was very pleased about their offer and accepted it eagerly, but I soon became aware they were closely monitoring my work and tailing me in and outside the Lab. I felt shadowed everywhere. The day I noticed a suspicious black car in front of my house, I immediately quit the studies and put on a very, very low profile."

You were slightly shaking and despite you gathered all your strength not to cry, your glaze fallen on your lap and your eyes filled with tears.

"Enough!" Loki growled and stood up. "Can't you see she is just shocked and exhausted and weak?! Didn't you saw how many energies she channeled?! You all stop pushing her! She did nothing wrong. We can let her breath for a moment, if you please" he hissed angrily and reached you out, standing behind your chair and laying an hand on your shoulder in a very protective way.

You didn't dare to look up anymore, neither at him, thus you were glad of his intervention. You felt strangely good about that. About his presence around.

A dense silence fell on the room.

Natasha and the Captain looked up and nodded meaningfully at each other. They then casted an equally meaningful look at Fury, who's eye narrowed.

You understood there was something up to their mind about you. You really hoped it was nothing too bad and braced yourself for what was coming.
