"We must take some precautions. We don't know yet who she is."

You became aware of the surroundings again when you started to hear people arguing around. You fought against the haze and the fuzzy in your mind, even if your head was hurting so bad you though it was about to split open in two.

"You're not fair. None of you" you heard a female voice yelling "She did nothing but help us. She drowned her energies completely to succeeded in healing him. Thor, Loki, please say something!" "I woke up when she was passed out already, but she healed me, I know, I felt it. And we are just mistreating her. I strongly dislike your decision, Captain" you hear a deeper, masculine voice complain.

You jolted awake what seemed like few minutes later. You slowly raised to sit on the bed someone had most probably let you lay on, your head spinning hard in the attempt.

Reaching out your forehead with your hand, you found you where handcuffed. You weren't expecting this, despite it made sense.

Blinking hard, you looked around the room and realized you were in a medical bay, but definitely not at the Presbyterian: the furniture looked much more newer and elegant, the commodities way more high tech.

The coldness of what must have been an ice pack pressed on the top of your head made you shiver a little but you couldn't help to enjoy the relieving sensation that followed for half of a second before realising that the thing had not planted in place itself. Someone must have done it.

"Easy, lady" you turned around to meet a pair of magnetic eyes surveying you. "How long was I out?" you breathed in a very hoarse voice. "All day and one night. It's almost midday" a deep, sensual voice replied politely.

The guy sitting beside your spot was lean, but still muscular, with midnight-coloured hair that gently waved to the top of a pair of broad shoulders. Thought the nose, the cheekbones, all his features were straight, perfect, angular, the primary reason why you couldn't look away were his eyes, iris of emerald green light up with golden veins. His dazzling beautiful face was friendly, open, a slight smile on his flawless lips.

You interrupted you stare and eventually blanched when you finally recognised the too familiar raven guy: he was Loki, Thor's brother and the most recent member of the Avengers. News talked about his return on Earth on the good side for months.

He looked like he was surveying you with curiosity despite his stoic expression, taking in your thin appearance, the long ash-blond braid on your side, your blue medical scrubs covered in dust. He seemed sort of intrigued by your person.

You were in front of one of the Earth's mightiest hero and Asgard's rightful prince but he seemed more... familiar than from just seeing him on TV screen.

And damn hotter.

And you were disheveled, pale, sick and dirty. Brilliant. What a good first impression.

"My apologies, Lady, I didn't meant to scare you" He spoke smoothing is voice further, looking concerned at your shocked expression.

"No, I am all right. It's just... You are... you and the Avenger are very popular. Big fan of you all" you cracked a small smile at him, swaying. He seemed pleased and surprised at the same time by your answer, but you see he relaxed and shown you his most famous grin.

It's not that you had lied to him, there were no point in trying and you knew. It was just that you had not  the forces to spill how much your life changed because of him. Not now.

You moved slowly to sit properly upright and set aside the ice pack, pinching the upper part of your nose, right between your eyes, fighting hopelessly the migraine. You see out of the corner of your eyes his hesitation in offering help in hauling you upright. He kept his hand on your shoulder waiting patiently you re-grounded in reality.

Before you could even ask, a glass of water was showed under your nose. You looked up and he softly smiled at you again. Your heart missed a beat.

"Knock, knock..." you heard a female, low voice coming from the door. The red-haired woman you recognized as Natasha Romanoff had just peered inside the room.

"Oh she is awake, very good. I came for guard change, but I think I can take care of getting her ready for the meeting. Loki can you join the boys upstairs? Fury wants to speak with you too before we start."

"Very well" Loki slowly stood up, sighing heavily. He gave her a hint of a bow taking his leave. "Lady Natasha". He turned quickly in your direction "and Lady...?"

Oh boy. He had been so kind with you and you had even forgot to say your name. You cursed yourself for being such an idiot.

"Sorry. I am Doctor Y/L/N. Y/N." You gave him an accent of a wave. He bowed properly in your direction with an elegant, regal move and then turned again and paced out from the room, closing the door behind his shoulders.

Natasha reached you out and introduced herself; you also shaken hands in a very professional manner.

"So Dr. Y/L/N, good news is that the battle is over and the HYDRA attack defeated. I have to say you jumped in heroically and most reasonably saved Thor's ass from being kicked very hard. Bad news are that videos of your actions are already viral and the SHIELD bureau is quite pissed off about the fact there is a magical-user they were not aware of. Are you up to come upstairs for some explanations? The rest of the team is eager to know you."

You looked at her in disbelief. You were unsure if the thing that shocked you most was to hear about the burst of unsolicited publicity your had deserved, or if the fact that, despite you were handcuffed in a SHIELD base, this woman was addressing you like a welcomed guest rather than a prisoner.

You really couldn't help to smile at her. You looked at each other in a silent, reciprocal exchange: you're a bada*s of a woman and I like you.
