today was exactly two. years since Evelyn went missing. Spencer was understandably having a rough day, but he insisted on going at work and staying the entire day, regardless of how much the team was going to urge him to go home, just like they did last year. at least that's what Spencer was expecting. what he wasn't expecting was what actually happened. "we have a break in the case." hotch sternly said to Spencer when he walked in as he hurried to the round table. "what case?" Spencer asked, obviously confused. "Michael Reyes." was all hotch said before he disappeared into the room, the rest of the team already there. Spencer froze as he heard the name, it triggering something in his brain. he regained his composure, practically running into the round table room, all eyes shooting to him as he came in. displayed on the screen was a video of Michael, spitting that he had grown tired of Evelyn not being able to give him what he wanted and that they had 12 hours to find her or she was dead, along with a riddle that contained where she would be. Spencer's heart dropped, staring at the screen. "she's alive." Spencer practically whispering the sentence. "how long ago was that video sent?" he said quickly, his heart dropping even more when the team stayed silent. "how long ago was the video sent?" he exclaims, desperate to know the answer. "10 hours ago." Penelope speaks quietly as if Spencer would break if she spoke any louder. "so that means we have 2 hours to find her?" he spoke quietly, Penelope nodding softly. "so then what are we doing sitting here? we should be out there trying to find her and decoding the riddle!" he exclaims, slightly snapping. "reid." Jj says softly, giving a him a sympathetic look. he scoffs softly, crossing his arms. "so we're not even going to try to find her?" he tuts, obviously upset. "y'know, the kid's right. we should at least try to find Evelyn." Rossi says, sympathizing with Spencer. hotch sighs softly. "well then let's get to work." he says, Spencer immediately jumping in to help. after what seemed like forever, they had cracked the code. "that's 5 minutes away from my apartment." Spencer says sadly. "how much time do we have left?" Penelope asks. "10 minutes." hotch says, the place Evelyn was being held being 15 minutes away. "we have to still try! she may still be alive when we get there!" Spencer exclaims. hotch nods, knowing very well Spencer could be right. "let's go. we have to hurry." the team runs out and down the stairs, not having time to wait for the elevator. "be safe my pretties! and bring her back safe and sound!" Penelope calls out to them as they descend down the stairs. they quickly sped down the road, going as fast as they. would without crashing. Spencer, Alex, and Jj were to go find Evelyn, whereas hotch, Derek, and Rossi were to go find Michael. when they arrived, time had run out, them being two minutes past 12 hours. they all immediately run out, Spencer practically becoming the flash as he ran to the door, screaming 'fbi' as he kicked down the door, the door literally coming off the hinges and landing on the floor with a thud. Spencer, Jj , and Alex all run in, guns up and ready, quickly running around the house to clear it before making their way to the basement, where Evelyn supposedly was. faint coughing could be heard, getting louder as they made their way down. "Evelyn? it's Spencer, Emily, and Jj. you're okay n-" he says, freezing as he got to the bottom of the stairs that led to the basement, laying eyes on Evelyn who was lying in a pool of her own blood, coughing it up as well as she had been stabbed multiple times in the stomach, the weapon laying next to her, Michael nowhere to be found. "Spencer." she croaks out, reaching a hand out to him. "we need medical NOW." Alex says sternly into the Mic in her sleeve. Spencer rushes over to Evelyn, tears streaming down his face as he applied pressure to her wound. "I'm not letting you die." he said over and over again as he did. "where the hell is medical." he yells distraught, Jj and Alex helping the wound the best they could. medical finally comes down and gets her, immediately taking her to the hospital, Spencer riding in the ambulance with her. hotch, Rossi and morgan finally come back, hotch sighing frustrated and shaking his head. "he got away." he says angrily. "again?!" Jj exclaims, stressfully smoothing her ponytail. to say the bau team was in for a lot more than what they bargained for was definitely an understatement compared to what the team was about to endure.
