a/n: this chapter takes place on Christmas Eve.

Evelyn was enjoying her maternity leave, grateful she got to stay home and spend time with Madison. she was currently with Penelope at her place with Madison, getting ready for rossi's Christmas party. they were singing their hearts out as the got ready, obsessing over Madison as they did. the nights had been brutal when Spencer was out of town, but when he was home, if she was up with Madison, so was he. sometimes he would even take over, letting her go back to bed while he took care of her. once they were done getting ready they drove over to rossi's, the faces of everyone who was there (which happened to be everyone except Spencer) lighting up once they saw Madison, who was dressed in a Christmas onesie Penelope had made her. "where's Spencer?" she asked, taking Madison out of her carrier and putting her on her hip. "right here." Spencer said as he walked in. Evelyn turned around, Spencer immediately eyeing her up and down. he had never seen her dressed the way she was, but he couldn't say he was complaining about the sight. "hello jellybean." Spencer said as Evelyn handed Madison to him. Spencer immediately put her on his hip, kissing the top of her head. Madison immediately melted into him, melting evelyn's heart. "he's so good with her." Alex said, following the group to the living room, where they were all gathered. Evelyn sat on the couch, Spencer sitting next to her as they all chatted and laughed. they all had champagne or wine (some had more than others *cough* Evelyn and Penelope *cough*) as they talked. eventually they ended up playing truth or dare again, and it was Spencer's turn to go. "Evelyn. truth or dare?" he asked turning towards her. "mmmm truth." she said. "what's your biggest secret?" he asked, assuming he knew it and wanted to embarrass her as a joke. obviously he didn't, so she hesitated before Penelope, who was very drunk, spoke up. "oh oh I know this!" she slurred excitedly. "penelopleee" Evelyn warned, but Penelope in her drunken state ignored her. "Evelyn has had the hugest crush on the good doctor for 20 years." Penelope said, Evelyn begging her to shut up until she had said the full sentence. once she did, Evelyn buried her face in her hands, obviously embarrassed. "oh I uh- is that true?" Spencer asks, Evelyn sighing and nodding. "yea." she says, sounding defeated. Spencer nods, even though Evelyn couldn't see. "but you've just been too goddamn oblivious to notice." she snapped, standing up. "can we go home now?" she asked, taking Madison from Spencer and walking to the kitchen where her carrier/car seat was. "sure." Spencer mumbled, mumbling a 'bye' to everyone with an awkward wave, following Evelyn to the car, driving to Evelyn's house in silence. once they pulled into the driveway Evelyn immediately went inside with Madison, putting her to sleep before going to her room, her back to the doo as she began to cry, thinking she ruined their friendship. Spencer walked in after her, going to evelyn's room, standing in the doorway. "I'm not the only oblivious one y'know." he said, leaning against the doorframe. "what?" she said softly, turning around to face him. "you're oblivious too Evelyn." he said stepping closer to her, placing his hands on her cheeks, using his thumbs to wipe her tears away. Evelyn held onto his wrists, looking up at him, interested by what he meant. "how?" she sniffled. Spencer sighed, leaning his forehead on hers, kissing her nose before softly kissing her lips. Evelyn hesitantly kissed him back, hoping he wasn't joking with her. Spencer slowly pulled away. "was that real? or did you just think It was funny?" she said, recalling the last time he kissed her. "it wasn't funny then and it's not funny now. I just said it was because I was too much of a wimp to actually say it. I was going to, hence why I said I wanted to, but then I thought you'd might think it was weird and I didn't want to ruin such a good night." he explains. "well you did. without meaning to, you did. that's why I was crying. because that shattered me." she said, laying her head on his shoulder. "spence you can't play with my feelings like this." she sighs. he pulled her close, the first close hug they could have since evelyn's bump got in the way. "im not. I promise. Evelyn Nicole jones, I am deeply in love with you. and have been since June 5th, 2004 when we had that case at your college. I just never realized until you came to a the BAU." Spencer says. Evelyn nods, looking at him. "okay, I believe you." she says, Spencer softly kissing her.
