a/n: this chapter takes place during the second episode of season one

"are you excited to see him?" rachel, evelyn's closest friend at school asked. "i don't even know if i'll see him!" evelyn exclaimed, shaking her head. "why wouldn't you see him? he's an fbi agent from the bau and with everything going on here and the bau being called in, there's no doubt you'll see him!" "i get that rach, but he's most likely going to stay at the-" evelyn started but was cut off by a group of people running by going towards the large courtyard. evelyn looks at rachel confused, rachel being just as confused. "what's going on? why is everyone going to the courtyard?" she thought aloud as she noticed others going the same direction. "didn't you hear?" a classmate said, both girls shaking their heads. "the fbi agents from quantico are here!" the classmate continued, running off and following everyone else to the courtyard. "well here's your chance to see if he's here!" rachel stated, slightly pushing evelyn in the direction of the courtyard. "ok, ok i'm going!" evelyn said, walking faster so rachel would stop pushing her. once they got to the courtyard, she looked around, quickly spotting where they were, due to the crowd of people trying to subtly see what was happening but to anyone who went to the school knowing exactly what they were doing since it usually wasn't as busy as it currently was. " what does he look like again?" rachel asked, also looking for him. "um he's tall, has brunette hair, hazel eyes, posture like an earthworm-" "i'm sorry what" rachel says, looking at her friend, needing to make sure she heard her correctly. "his words not mine!" evelyn defends, glancing to her friend before going back to searching for her childhood friend, spencer reid. she soon spots him, suddenly getting nervous. "he's here" she says. "great now let's go say hi" rachel says, beginning to walk across the courtyard to where he was stood. "woah woah woah, not yet." evelyn retorts, digging her heels into the ground in protest. "why not?" rachel asks. "he-um-looks.....busy?" she says, the sentence coming out more like a question. "mhm so busy." rachel sarcastically said, glancing over to the fbi agents currently doing nothing. evelyn groans softly before giving in and walking towards the group. once they got closer, spencer almost instantly spotted her and smiles. "i'll be right back." he said quietly to his colleague and friend, derek morgan. "hurry back pretty boy." derek smirked, knowing exactly where he was going. he clears his throat awkwardly as he walked toward them. "evelyn" he says, making her look up and smile. he smiles back and finally gets to her. "hey" he smiles as he opened his arms for a hug, derek raising an eyebrow at the action. evelyn instantly hugged him, taking in his scent. "how are you?" he asks her, pulling away. "i have my ups and downs. oh this is rachel by the way." evelyn smiles, motioning over to her friend. spencer gives her an awkward smile and waves, rachel returning the action, knowing he didn't like physical contact unless he was close to that person. "you told me he was attractive, but you really downplayed it, evelyn." rachel said to Evelyn quietly but not quiet enough as spencer heard making them both blush and evelyn smack rachel's arm. "ow! what was tha-" "shut. up." evelyn said through gritted teeth. rachel looks between spencer and evelyn confused before mouthing 'ohhhhhh', "he doesn't know does he?" rachel says, looking at her friend. "i don't know what?" spencer asks, obviously confused, evelyn thankful for his obliviousness. "nothing!" evelyn says quicker than she should have. spencer goes to say something but is cut off by derek coming over. "hey pretty boy, we gotta go. hotch and elle found something." he says. "i'm derek by the way." he smiles at the two girls and shakes their hands. "you must be evelyn." derek says, looking to evelyn. evelyn nods as derek's gaze shifts to rachel. "and you are?" he asks. "i'm rachel." she smiles at him. "damn pretty boy. you didn't tell me she was attractive." he says, making evelyn blush. "she's single too! you're still single, right?" spencer says, oblivious to her huge crush on him that everyone else managed to notice, even if she didn't know them, "yes spence. i'm still single" she laughs, not surprised he was so oblivious. "anyway, we gotta go. it was nice meeting you ladies." derek smiles, him and spencer walking away, talking as they walked. "okay i knew he was gonna be oblivious but i didn't know he was gonna be THAT oblivious." rachel stated as soon as they were out of earshot. "that's spencer reid for you." evelyn shrugs, looking over at him walking away.
