it had been two weeks since the start of evelyn and spencer's break, evelyn taking those two weeks off of work. emily was the only one who knew what happened, telling the rest of the team she was taking some personal time. technically she was, but part of her still wasn't ready to see spencer. there had been zero contact between them for the entire two weeks, which was difficult for the both of them. today was her first day back, and of course, they had a case. "sorry i'm late." evelyn mumbled as she walked in, avoiding looking at spencer. thankfully emily and jj sat on either side of him so she didn't have to, evelyn taking a seat next to luke, which was thankfully at the other side of the table. evelyn did end up having a concussion, along with a tiny cut that needed a couple stitches. "oh yay, you're back. we missed you." penelope says, smiling at evelyn. evelyn weakly smiled back, penelope frowning at evelyn's reaction. "garcia, the case." emily says. "oh, right." penelope says, getting back to presenting the case. "wheels up in 30." emily days once penelope was done presenting. florida. of course it was in florida. why would it be anywhere else? the team got up, spencer not moving once he stood up, hoping to talk to evelyn. "evelyn." he said as she got closer, evelyn walking right past him, not even looking at him. penelope raised an eyebrow at the interaction, well lack thereof, following evelyn out. "hey, what was that back there? not sitting next to spencer?" penelope asks. "wasn't an open seat." evelyn replied simply. "and you blew right past him just now, not even looking at him." she says. "penelope i rather not talk about it." evelyn says, going to her desk as everyone slowly walked out of the conference room. "if something's going on between you and spencer-" penelope starts, evelyn cutting her off. "i said i don't wanna talk about it, penelope!" evelyn yells, throwing her hands up, everyone looking at her. "okay, sorry." penelope says softly, walking away from her. evelyn huffs and turns around, shuffling through the papers in her desk to see what she had to do. evelyn was very obviously overwhelmed the entire team picking up on it. "evelyn." emily says softly, carefully approaching her. "what?!" evelyn snaps, turning around, wiping the tears that had fallen due to being so overwhelmed. "you can take some more time off if you-" "i don't need anymore time off! i'm fine!" evelyn huffs, cutting her off, walking away angrily. emily looks at jj sympathetically. jj walks over to emily, sighing softly. "what are we going to do?" she asks quietly. "i don't know. i feel bad. she's so overwhelmed but i don't think sending her home would do any good as well." emily replies, looking around, her eyes locking with spencer's as he looks at them, knowing exactly what they were talking about.
tara, luke, rossi, emily, jj, matt, spencer, evelyn
..................
they were now on the jet, evelyn sitting next to jj, a little father from the rest of the team. they were talking about the victims, evelyn just listening in. "tara is taking some personal time so, luke, rossi, go to the crime scene, reid and evelyn go to the M.E. and the rest of us will set up at the precinct." emily says, used to putting the two of them together. jj clears her throat, emily realizing her mistake. "jj, you go with reid, evelyn you're with us at the precinct." emily corrects herself. evelyn nods, staying silent. spencer looks sadly over at jj, jj looking at him sympathetically. once they landed they split, the team eventually meeting at the hotel. "okay we only got 4 rooms, which means everyone will have to pair except once person." emily says. "evelyn, you're by yourself, okay?" emily continues, looking at evelyn. "okay." she said softly, that being the first word most of the team had heard her speak since she blew up on emily. they all walked to their rooms, the pairs being: jj and emily, luke and matt, and spencer and rossi. "so why aren't you and blondie sharing a room?" rossi asks spencer as they settled into the room. "jj? why would we-" "not jj. evelyn." rossi says, cutting him off. 'oh' spencer mouths, staying silent. "don't tell me you two broke up." rossi says, raising an eyebrow. spencer sighs before speaking. "honestly, it feels like we have. we got in a fight and i slammed her into the wall." spencer admits, looking at the ground. "and it scared her, didn't it?" rossi asks softly. "yea, why wouldn't it? she doesn't trust me anymore and she won't even look at me." spencer sniffles. "just give her time." rossi says. "i've given her two weeks so far! how much more time does she need?" spencer snaps, frustrated. he sighs, trying to calm down. "you give her as much time as she needs. she'll come to you when she's ready." rossi says. spencer sighs, knowing he was right. "now get some sleep, kid, we don't need two agents on edge." rossi says, climbing into his bed. spencer gets into his bed, turning off the lamp. rossi quickly falls asleep, spencer not having the same luck. spencer sighs, quietly getting out of bed, going over to evelyn room, which was thankfully right across the hall. "oh no." spencer whispered to himself as the door shut, realizing her forgot his room key. he mentally face palms, walking over to evelyn's door and knocking on it, waiting for her to (hopefully) open the door. to his surprise, a few moments later she opens it, looking at him for the first time in two weeks. "can i come in?" he asks quietly, walking in once evelyn stepped aside and opened the door fully so he could come in. "why are you here, spencer?" she snaps, although she was genuinely curious. "i couldn't sleep." he says. "which is my problem how?" she says, knowing exactly how it was her problem. "i wanted to apologize. i truly am so-" spencer says, evelyn cutting him off. "save it." she snaps, a silence falling between them. spencer looks at evelyn, his eyes begging her to forgive him. evelyn sighs, rolling her eyes, not being able to resist him. "one night. that's it." she gives in, holding up a finger. spencer nods, getting into the bed, evelyn getting in next to him, shutting off the lamp. he immediately wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close, making her the little spoon. evelyn slaps his hand away, scooting away from him. "no touching." she hisses. spencer sighs, rolling over to his back, intertwining his fingers on his chest. both of them laid there for a good 30 minutes, neither of them being able to sleep before evelyn groaned, giving in. she rolls over to face him, moving his hands off his chest, laying her head in his chest, spencer wrapping his arm around her. "one night." she reminds him, yawning as she drew circles on his chest through his shirt. "one night." spencer repeated, the two of them drifting off to sleep.
