a/n: this chapter will be super short and will take place a few years after the previous chapter, during early season 3, or 2007.
"Spencer?" Evelyn said as the phone had stopped ringing, signaling someone had picked up. "Evelyn? hi! I didn't recognize the number, I almost didn't answer. normally I just answer, I don't know why I actually looked at the number this time." Spencer replied, making Evelyn laugh softly. "do you even have any numbers saved outside of work?" she laughed. "no." Spencer admitted softly. "why does that not surprise me?" Evelyn said, her mental facepalm obvious. "I can hear your body language through the phone caterpillar" he said, calling her the nickname only he called her. She smiled to herself as she heard the name. "yea, yea, how are you?" she asked. Evelyn and Spencer tried to talk everyday since seeing each other last, however with college being hectic and Spencer's work being time consuming at times, that didn't always happen. "I'm good, we actually just finished a case, somewhat near you." Spencer said. "oh that's cool, give me all the details." she says, making Spencer spill everything. "when do you leave?" she asked, wanting to see her best friend. "in about 10 minutes." Spencer said, obviously oblivious as to why she was asking. "oh" she said simply, somewhat sad, knowing she wouldn't be able to see him. Spencer then realized why she had asked, making him start to ramble, "I was going to come see you but the case took longer than we expected and we're all super tired and out of clean clothes. I was going to stay back an extra day to see you but-" "Spence, it's fine, you don't have to explain yourself to me." Evelyn cut him off, laughing softly. "I'll see you soon, okay?" she says softly, swaying side to side in her dorm as she looked out of the window as the sun set on the beautiful autumn day. "okay." Spencer said softly, making Evelyn melt. "I gotta go okay? you be good and don't have too much fun at college parties." he said, following it up with some tacky statistic about college parties, Evelyn immediately zoning out. "okay, I'll talk to you tomorrow" Evelyn said softly. "bye caterpillar." Spencer said softly, practically a whisper, making Evelyn melt once again. "bye earthworm." she smiled and laughed, making Spencer laugh before he hung up. Evelyn turned her phone off, smiling to herself as she got ready for a night in, getting her books, and note taking utensils out, sitting at her desk, putting in her earbuds, beginning her study session to prepare for the next morning.
