Credits to @please-dont-stop-me for this idea. She suggested I write an imagine based off my Hoseok pretend boyfriend imagine but with Jin and the roles reversed!
Jin was at his parents' house for his usual visit. He loved seeing them and catching up on life, talking about what exciting things have been happening.
"So." His mother spoke up.
Jin could sense it coming. That dreaded question his parents always ask.
"Are you seeing anyone?"
"No." He sighed.
"Jin, honey, you're 28 years old."
"And?"
"Don't you think you should start thinking about settling down?"
"No. I'm not really interested in looking for a relationship."
"What about Y/n?"
Jin nearly choked on his food.
"Y/n?" He parroted.
"Yeah, your friend? You two have been close for years. What about her?"
Jin was speechless. He couldn't believe his mom had even suggested you.
"You've only met her once."
"So? She was a nice girl."
"I don't think she likes me that way."
"How do you know?"
"Well... I don't."
"Have you said anything to her?" Jin's dad spoke up.
Jin hesitated, not wanting to talk about this at all.
"No." He sighed.
"Maybe you should." His mom chimed in again. "You never know."
"Can we just drop this?"
"Alright, sure."
Jin sighed, having lost his appetite.
Who says he has to be in a relationship or married by a certain age? Who says he even has to be in a relationship at all? No one. It's just the "social norm" these days and, unfortunately, his parents are the type of people who think he should be married at a certain age.
He was frustrated and fed up, so much so that he's gotten to the point where he was considering not visiting his parents anymore.
As tempting as that was, he knew he couldn't.
You stretched out, letting out a strained noise as you did so. The sound of your phone ringing made you stand upright.
You retrieved your phone from the coffee table, taking a quick glance at the screen.
"Hello?" You answered.
"Hey, Y/n. Can I come over?" Your friend, Jin asked, his voice sounding a bit gloomy.
"Sure. Is something wrong? You sound upset."
He let out a short sigh. "I just got back from having dinner with my parents."
"Oh." You frowned, knowing what he was getting around to. "Did they ask you again?"
"Yeah."
"I'm so sorry."
"It's fine."
"I'll watch for you to pull up to my place." You told him.
"Thanks. I'll see you in a few minutes."
After hanging up, you dropped heavily onto the couch, a huff leaving you.
Jin's parents seem nice, but from what you've heard, they're pretty adamant about him finding a girlfriend. You can't imagine how exhausting it is to be in his position.
You've always been attracted to Jin, from the day you met, but he doesn't seem to want to get into a relationship, so you've kept your feelings buried down deep. You've accepted that he's just not interested in dating.
Jin arrived a few minutes later, looking just as down as he sounded over the phone.
"Come here." You beckoned, taking hold of his hand, pulling him inside.
You brought him over to the couch where he immediately flopped down on it. Allowing him to make himself at home, you left the room to retrieve a sherpa blanket, one of the fluffiest and warmest blankets you owned.
Once back in the living room, you unfolded the blanket and laid it over Jin.
"There you go, bub." You cooed.
He hummed in satisfaction, muttering a small thank you.
You took a seat beside him and hugged him.
"I'm really sorry, Jin."
"Me too." He murmured. "I just wish they'd leave me be. I feel like all they care about is me settling down."
"It seems that way. I mean, as dumb as it is, they probably just want the best for you."
"Yeah." He sighed. "You're right."
"It's still stupid, though." You stated. "You're a grown man, you can decide if you wanna date someone. You can also just stay single. Who says you have to settle down at a certain age?"
"Exactly!" Jin nodded. "I just wish they would understand that."
"You should tell them." You encouraged.
"I've already told them I'm not interested in looking for a relationship, let alone settling down. They just don't get it."
"Maybe one day you'll be able to confront them about it and make them understand."
"I hope so." He sighed, dropping his head onto your shoulder.
