"I hope we stay together forever." You told Namjoon as you stared up at the overcast sky, snowflakes floating down towards the both of you.
"Me too." Namjoon agreed. "I'm the happiest when I'm with you and I always want to be happy."

Your time in high school would be coming to a close the next year and you both would be going off to college. It was crazy to think that by the same time next year you would be in college studying and working towards your major.
"Joon?" You called.
"Yes?"
"Can you believe we'll be graduating next year?"
"No. I can't."
"It's gonna be really different." You stated.
"It will, but it's kind of exciting. We'll be starting a new chapter of our lives."
"Yeah, that's true. I hope we can experience it together." You smiled, taking hold of his hand.
"Me too."

present day

You thought back on that day you and Namjoon were watching the snow, talking about your futures. You were foolish for thinking the both of you would last.
You stayed with Namjoon until the fall when you were both preparing for college. You got into a college out of town and he decided to attend one close to home. Unfortunately, that caused the both of you to break up. You tried to make it work, but you were both too busy to visit each other. Thankfully, you ended it on good terms, but it was still sad.
That was two years ago.

You had now graduated with an associate's degree and were taking a break to figure out what you would do next. During that break, you went back to your hometown to visit your parents. You let them know you were coming ahead of time so they could prepare for your arrival. You knew they'd want to make a nice meal, so you decided to notify them of your arrival.

You stepped inside the house, a familiar and warm feeling settling over you. A sense of nostalgia washed over you as you moved further into the house. It felt like forever since you'd last been there.
"Knock knock." You announced, heading towards the living room.
When you entered the space, it felt like the breath was knocked out of you. The last person you expected to see was standing right in your living room.
"Namjoon?" You asked, your voice coming out weaker than you intended.
"Hi, Y/n."
"What... what are you doing here?"
"Your parents told me you were coming to town and invited me over."
Without thinking, you sprung forward, hurrying over to Namjoon, wrapping your arms around him. The impact made him lose his balance a bit, but he was quick to recover, reciprocating the hug.
"I missed you so much." You murmured, your voice shaky as your eyes began to water.
"I missed you too." He smiled softly, resting his head on your shoulder.
"Ah. Y/n, you're here!" Your mom's voice broke out, making you pull away.
"Hi mom."
Your dad walked in seconds later.
"Sorry we weren't here to greet you, kiddo. Your mom had me in the kitchen helping her."
"That's fine." You said, wiping your eyes.
"Oh, honey. Are you okay?" Your mom asked.
"Yeah. I was just surprised to see Namjoon."
"We knew you'd be happy to see him." She smiled. "We called him up and invited him over. Your dad and I thought it would be a nice surprise."
"It is." You nodded with a quiet sniffle.
"Well, dinner's ready. We just finished up, so everything is hot. You two can go and fix your plates if you want." Your dad offered.
"Actually, it looks like you two have some catching up to do, so we'll go ahead and give you some privacy. You can eat when you're ready." Your mom spoke up, pulling your dad out of the room.

You turned back to your unexpected houseguest, noticing you still had your arms around him. The both of you quickly parted ways, muttering bashful apologizes to each other. Once you stepped away, you were able to get a good look at him.
Namjoon had changed quite a bit since the last time you saw him. His hair was shorter and he seriously bulked up. His arms, chest, and even his neck had gotten beefier since the last time you saw him. You had to stop yourself from gawking for too long, hesitantly pulling your eyes away from his buff physique.
"You've gotten... big." You commented, mentally slapping yourself for your poor word choice.
He let out a deep and amused chuckle.
"Thanks. I've been into working out lately."
"Ah. That's good. It's good to have a healthy hobby like that."
Ugh. What am I saying? You groaned internally.
"Hey, I know things feel a little awkward because we haven't seen each other in a while, but I'm still the same Namjoon. There's no need to feel uncomfortable."
"You're right." You sighed with a soundless chuckle. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I was feeling the same way, but then I realized, it's just you. There's nothing to be nervous about."
You smiled, feeling comforted by his words. He hasn't changed a bit. He's still the same philosophical, gentle, and kind Namjoon you knew back in high school.

After that, you felt more relaxed. Talking to Namjoon was easy, it was as if you two had never parted ways. Seeing him again took you back to when the two of you were still together—you missed those days. Things seemed easier, less stressful, and happier. Not that college wasn't fun, it was. You loved college, but there was something about being in high school and that made things feel a little more easygoing.

"You remember that one time we took off at 11:00 at night and went to McDonalds?" Namjoon asked.
"Yeah. We drove through and we got so much food." You chuckled. "Then we went to the beach and ate."
"That was fun."
"It was. I love doing things on a whim. That time we took off to McDonald's one of my favorites."
"I miss that." Namjoon murmured.
"Me too." You agreed, glancing over at him.
His gaze turned away as he avoided eye contact with you.
"Honestly, I've been thinking a lot about us." He admitted.
"You have?"
He nodded.

There had been times where Namjoon had crossed your mind, but you would force yourself not to think about it. It was at night when you were trying to sleep when the "what if" thoughts creeped in. Yes, you wondered what would have happened if you and Namjoon stayed together. Would you have made it through the tough times and prevailed? Would it have ruined your relationship? You didn't know.

"What have you been thinking about?" You asked, quietly.
"How things would be if we stayed together."
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about it too."
"I'm relieved to hear that." He said, letting out a chuckle of relief.
You smiled, grasping his hand.
"I really wanna keep talking about this, but we should probably go eat. If we take too long, my parents might decide to start eavesdropping on us."
He let out a laugh. "That's a good idea, plus I'm starving."

The two of you stood up from the couch and entered the kitchen to fix your plates. Thankfully, your parents were at the dining room table seeming to be pretty invested in their own conversation.
"Ah, there you two are. Did you have a chance to catch up?" Your mom asked.
"We did." Namjoon answered with a smile as he took a seat.

Dinner was wonderful. It was nice to have a home-cooked meal after so many instant meals and takeout orders. Plus, you really missed your mom's cooking.
After dinner, Namjoon stayed for a few hours before mentioning that he needed to head home, as it was nearing midnight.

"I'll go see you out." You told him, standing up from your seat.
You walked with him to the entrance, pulling open the door and stepping outside.
"I'm glad I got to see you." You told him.
"Me too." He smiled. "When your parents invited me, I was so excited. I didn't even have to think about my answer."
"I'm glad to hear that."
Namjoon took hold of your hands.
"Should we give this another shot? Us, I mean." He specified.
"I thought you'd never ask."
His dimples made an appearance as he tried to hold back a smile. He then leaned in to give you a quick kiss. Though brief, it sent fireworks erupting in your stomach and brought you back to the last time you kissed Namjoon. You missed the feeling immensely, more than you even realized.
You both pulled away with smiles plastered on your faces.

"I should probably give you my number. I got a new phone about a year ago." He mentioned.
As he pulled out his phone, you took yours out, exchanging numbers with him.
"I'll be in touch." Namjoon said with a smile.
"You'd better be." You joked.
He gave a small grin before heading down the sidewalk.
"Goodnight, Y/n."
"Goodnight, Namjoon."
