I watched from behind the curtain as Jin strode around the tent, getting the crowd hyped up. The acrobats were swinging from bars hanging at the top of the tent, doing incredible flips and tricks.
"Hey." I heard someone whisper from behind me.
I turn and see Jungkook, wrapped up in a white robe. He's a merman. Jin recruited him a month ago. He said it would be great for publicity and everyone would love to see a merman. He can turn human when he's out of the water, which is convenient for him.
"Hey Koo." I greet him.
"You ready?" He asked.
"I'm always ready." I shot him a grin.
"And now presenting..." I heard Jin announce. "The beautiful, the enticcccccing, Y/n!"
"Here we go." I say before stepping through the curtains, a chorus of gasps coming from the crowd.
I strut around the ring, feeling everyone's eyes on me, my flashy, black show uniform glittering underneath the bright lights. I'm the main star of the weekly performances. Everyone comes to see me.
I'm part serpent. I have yellow eyes resembling a snake's, fangs, and bright green scales covering different parts of my body. Framing my face, on my shoulders, arms, and some along the sides of my thighs. I spent the majority of my life hiding from everyone. Not wanting to be seen by anybody. I'd always been seen at as a monster, until Jin found me. He was the first person to see me for who I am. He told me he was getting together his own little circus. A freak show. He explained to me that it would be a chance for people like me to shine.
I agreed immediately. I was one of the first people he recruited, along with a contortionist named Jimin, a sword swallower named BamBam, and a man with pyrokinesis named Chanyeol. I wasn't sure how that was possible, then again, my own existence seems a bit impossible.
Since then, our little family of freaks has grown immensely. Not only that, but the show has grown in popularity and we're getting way more visitors than usual. People have come from near and far just to see us. We all have a purpose now.
Music started playing through the tent and I started to do my little routine. I walked up to Jin, circling him. He smirked at me and watched as I brought my hand up to his face, using my nail to gently trace down his jawline. My routine usually consists of me strutting around the circus ring, dancing a little, and teasing Jin a bit. But tonight was different. I decided to take my performance a little further.
I could see the tips of Jin's ears turning pink as he watched me, trying to keep a calm composure. Whistles could be heard from the crowd as I leaned in towards Jin, bringing my lips close to his only to pull away and walk away, blowing a kiss to the crowd before I disappeared behind the curtains.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, my heart feeling like it's gonna beat out of my chest.
"Y/n! What was that?!" Jimin asked running up to me.
"Yeah. You were totally about to kiss Jin!" Chanyeol exclaimed.
"I wanted to do something different. Make some moves on him." I answer.
"Well, it worked. He was totally flustered." Chanyeol laughed.
"Why don't you just tell him how you really feel?" Jimin asked.
"Yeah. We can all see how much you two like each other." Jungkook spoke up.
"What? What do you mean? He doesn't like me, does he?"
"Are you serious?" Jimin laughed.
"I see him stare at you when you're doing your makeup before a show." Chanyeol contributed.
"Yeah, his ears get red when you compliment him too." Jungkook snickered.
"Hey!" BamBam comes running up. "Why are we all congregated over here?"
"We're talking about Y/n's crush on Jin." Chanyeol answered.
"Ooh. Did you tell him how you feel?" BamBam looked at me excitedly.
"No." I look away.
"You should. Literally everyone in the freak show is tried of seeing you two making googly eyes at each other."
My eyes widen as I look around the group.
"He's right." Everyone mutters quietly.
Suddenly I was embarrassed. I didn't know everyone paid so much attention to Jin and I.
"Well..." I trailed off. "Maybe you guys should mind your business." I huffed.
Before anyone could respond, the curtains opened and Jongho, the freak show's strong man, came walking over.
"Jungkook, you're next." He said.
"Oh! Right. I gotta go. I'll catch up with you guys after the show." He waved, jogging to his tank.
"You should really consider talking to Jin. You can't drag this on forever." Jimin spoke up softly.
"These heels are hurting my feet. I need to go change." I switch the subject and walk off before anyone could stop me.
I went to my dressing room and changed into some more comfortable clothes, thoughts of Jin weighing heavily on my mind. I've known him for two years. We're very close and I'd never do anything to jeopardize our friendship. Confessing to him could ruin everything, then again, it seems like everyone in this whole tent can see that we feel the same for each other. Even so, I still feel apprehensive.
"Knock knock." I hear a familiar voice outside.
"Come in." I announce.
The curtains to my dressing room open and Jin steps inside. I stand up and walk over to him.
"That was some show tonight." He commented.
"Yeah." I let out an awkward chuckle. "I thought I'd try something new."
"I liked it." He admitted. "The crowd liked it too."
"Good." I nod. "I mean, it's good that the crowd liked it."
"You know, I was thinking you could make that part of your regular routine."
"Really?"
"Yeah." He grinned. "I would enjoy it a lot."
"You would enjoy it?"
"Oh. Uh... I mean... the crowd! They would enjoy it." He scratched their back of his head nervously. "Anyway, I wanted to talk to you."
"About what?"
"Some things I've been feeling for a while."
"Like what?" I ask hesitantly. I think I know where this is going, but I don't want to get my hopes up.
"Like feelings for you."
My eyes widened in shock. "For me?"
"Yes. I've been struggling with it for a year now and I didn't really know how to deal with it. But, after tonight, I felt like it was the right time to finally be honest."
"Jin, are you confessing to me?"
"Yes, but I'm failing miserably." He covered his face with his hands.
I stepped towards him, gently pulling his hands away.
"You're not failing miserably." I reassure him. "I've had the same feelings. Apparently, everyone in the freak show can see that we like each other except us."
"Wait." Jin's face dropped. "Really?"
"Yeah." I chuckle. "BamBam said everyone is sick of seeing us making googly eyes at each other."
"They notice that?" He whispered.
"Apparently."
"Well then, I guess we're doing everyone a favor by confessing to each other."
"I guess we are." I chuckled.
Jin reached up, brushing my hair behind my ear. "You're so beautiful Y/n."
My whole face felt like it was on fire. No one has ever said that to me.
"Do you mean that?" I asked softly.
"Every bit of it." He whispered as he leaned in, softly pressing his lips against mine.
I moved closer to him, tilting my head to the side and deepening the kiss. I felt like I was floating. I never thought I would get to experience this.
Jin pulled away, catching me off guard.
"Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" I look around the room, hearing faint whispers.
Jin steps away and pulls back the curtain to my dressing room. Chanyeol, Jimin, Jungkook, BamBam, and Jongho were all crowded around the entrance, their faces paling when the got caught.
"What are you doing?" Jin asked, one hand resting on his hip.
"We just wanted to see if you two were gonna finally kiss." Chanyeol answered bluntly.
"Jongho? What are you doing here?" I question.
"They filled me in and said you might confess. I was curious." He admitted shamefully.
"Alright, well we did kiss. You guys can go now." Jin shooed them away, letting the curtain fall back into place.
"Alone at last." He sighed, turning towards me. "Now, where were we?"
