September 1st finally arrived and Hayley couldn't be more excited, though she was slightly nervous and anxious. What if they were too busy to come to pick her up? What if they forget to pick her up? Or What if they came late to pick her and she ends up missing the train. Hayley shook her head, trying to clear all the negative thoughts. She went through all her belongings once more to make sure she packed everything. She was now clutching the ticket, which told that she had to board the Hogwarts Express on Platform 9¾. Hayley thought the Platform sounded unusual, but after seeing the magical world, she knew better than to question it. She already had her breakfast and was now waiting below the stairs, staring at the clock, with fidgety fingers.
When the clock struck at 10:05, Hayley heard a sharp knock at the door. She immediately ran to the door and opened it, revealing Professor Mcgonagall.
"Hello, Hayley, I hope you are ready to leave" asked Mcgonagall,
"Yes Professor" answered Hayley, with bubbling fervour. The Professor saw the resting trunk behind Hayley and gave an approving nod.
"I just need to inform your Caretaker once and then we'll be off to King's Cross," said Mcgonagall as she walked to Mildred's office and knocked on her door. Hayley waited outside. The Professor came out within 2 minutes, along with Mildred. Mildred looked at Hayley with a hard expression before turning away. Thereon, Hayley and Mcgonagall stepped out of the orphanage and started their journey to King's Cross.
All along the way, Hayley could not stop gushing about everything she read, from the books. Though she controlled the urge to ask about Harry Potter. And around 10:30, they had arrived at the King's Cross station.
Mcgonagall pulled Hayley to a discreet corner near the parking lot and said "I am sorry Hayley, but this is as far as I can come, if the other parents see me coming with you, there will be a lot of questions and I believe both you and I won't want that, but I can tell you how to reach Platform 9¾. You need to pass through the wall between platforms 9 and 10, don't worry it's completely harmless. Best to run through if you are scared. Now when you pass through the wall, you'll see the Hogwarts express, and all there's left to do is to choose a nice compartment. You will be able to see other students passing through the wall too, if you need an example. But be careful, so that no muggles notice you." Mcgonagall also thrust a handful of sickles in Hayley's hand, telling her she would need it for lunch.
Though Hayley was skeptical about running through a wall, she came to terms with it. After Hayley went into the station, Professor Mcgonagall left. Hayley kept her trunk on a trolley and wheeled towards platforms 9 and 10. As Mcgonagall told her, she quietly stood by watching the wall and saw people disappearing into it discretely. Hayley waited till there was no one around and sneakily approached the wall. She tried to walk through it but was scared. She decided to take Professor Mcgonagall's advice to run through it. She gave the trolley a mighty push, as she put all her force on her feet and ran through the wall. She didn't feel the wall but she did feel a sting on her cheek, when her face planted on the floor as she collided onto someone standing next to the wall on the other side, platform 9¾.
The person she pushed was a boy, who was now sprawled across the floor with his trunk open and all the books spilling out.
"I AM SO SORRY!" She yelled, her hands flailing,
"It's alright," said the boy, slightly limping. He And Hayley started stuffing his books back into the trunk.
"Can you please hold my toad? I always lose Trevor" said the round-faced boy. Hayley quickly took the toad in her hands,
"Sorry once again, I was scared to pass through, so I made a run" she said,
"I was also scared the first time, my gran ran through the wall with me, I'm Neville Longbottom, and you are?" he asked,
"Hayley" she answered, giving the toad back to Neville,
"I guess I'll see you around then-",
"Neville, where are you? Have you lost Trevor already?!" a woman shouted,
"I better go to my gran, bye then Hayley!" said Neville,
"Bye!", Hayley replied as Neville turned to walk to his grandmother.
Hayley now gave her full attention to the steaming scarlett engine, with the board spelling Hogwarts Express. Slowly waddling through the crowd, she climbed on the train. She found an empty compartment and went and settled herself in a window seat. She looked at the clock hanging above the platform which showed 10:45, meaning 15 minutes were left till the train leaves.
Hayley saw groups of students laughing and joking as they took their seats on the train.
Just then a bushy-haired girl opened the compartment door and asked "Are the seats taken?",
"No," replied Hayley. The girl then pulled her trunk inside and settled herself in.
"Hope you don't mind if my friends join here, everywhere else seems to be full..." she asked,
"No I don't mind at all," replied Hayley.
"I am Hermione Granger, Gryffindor, second year" she introduced herself with a smile and an outstretched hand,
"I'm Hayley, first year," said Hayley, as she shook Hermione's hand.
"Are you a muggle-born?" asked Hermione,
"Err maybe... I grew up in an orphanage, I don't know who my parents were" Hayley said slowly,
"I am sorry I asked, it doesn't matter anyway. If you are scared about Hogwarts, don't be, it's a brilliant place, somewhere we feel home. Most of the students are nice apart from some, just watch out to Slytherins, they aren't the pleasantest people" said Hermione,
"Okay" nodded Hayley, wondering how bad those Slytherins can be. Just then a red-haired girl came into the compartment.
"Can I sit with you and your friend Hermione?" asked the girl in a timid voice,
"Sure! Is it okay with you Hayley?" asked Hermione,
"Of course it is!" said Hayley. The red-haired girl sat down and introduced herself to Hayley "I am Ginny, Ginny Weasley," Hayley smiled in acknowledgement.
Hermione craned her neck outside the compartment, searching, she then turned to Ginny and asked "Where are Ron and Harry?", Hayley's ears perked, hearing the name Harry.
"They were supposed to cross the barrier after me, but I don't think I saw them while climbing the train." said Ginny, who also began to search for them. Just then the train started moving. Hermione looked as though she was a second away from panicking, while Ginny was waving to her parents, who kept asking her, to write to them regularly and shouted at her siblings to look out for her. After the train had left the station, Hermione went to search for Harry and Ron, while Ginny and Hayley stayed back.
