Chapter 20 : He talks Parseltongue Now?

Lockhart and Snape stood opposite to each other, in combat positions, in a staring contest. Lockhart gave Snape a deep bow while the latter merely jutted his head.

"As you see, we are holding our wands in the accepted combative position," Lockhart told the silent crowd.

"On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of us will be aiming to kill, of course." He added, as though subtly asking Snape to not use any complicated spells against him.

Xan looked at Snape with a little spark in his eyes, waiting to see how Snape was going to attack Lockhart. Jae's eyes rapidly moved between both the professors. Hayley was amused just by watching her friends' antics.

Both of them swung their wands above their heads and pointed them at their opponent; Snape cried: "Expelliarmus!" There was a dazzling flash of scarlet light and Lockhart was blasted off his feet: He flew backward off the stage, smashed into the wall, and slid down it to sprawl on the floor.

"That was AWESOME! Did you look at that?! " Xan exclaimed,

"That was one of the most perfect executions of the disarming charm... " Hayley said in awe,

"He must have hit is head pretty bad, bloke smacked into the wall like a fly splatting onto a windshield, " Jae said,

"Who cares? Maybe hitting his head would make him bearable, " Xan said, standing on his tippy toes, looking at Lockhart.

"Well, there you have it!" he said, tottering back onto the platform as though nothing had happened.

"That was a Disarming Charm - as you see, I've lost my wand - ah, thank you, Miss Brown - yes, an excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape, but if you don't mind my saying so, it was very obvious what you were about to do. If I had wanted to stop you it would have been only too easy - however, I felt it would be instructive to let them see . . ."

Snape had a look of pure unadulterated hate in his eyes as he looked at Lockhart, his lips twisting. Possibly Lockhart had noticed that and continued saying "Enough demonstrating! I'm going to come amongst you now and put you all into pairs. Professor Snape, if you'd like to help me -"

Then both professors proceeded to match partners, Hayley got paired with a fellow Slytherin first year Alison, they were on fairly good terms.

Jae and Xan got partnered up, but by far the most interesting combo was the Malfoy- Potter one.

As instructions were give Hayley and Alison tried disarm each other, but both their wands merely twitched in their hands. Some time later just when Hayley succeeded disarming her opponent, she could see Malfoy doubling over with laughter, looks like Potter used the Laughing Charm, Hayley thought.

"I said disarm only!!!! " Lockhart yelled over the commotion.

Within moments Malfoy yelled, desperately gasping for breathe,
"Tarantallengra!" And now Potter's legs was jerking in all directions uncontrollably.

"Stop! Stop!" Lockhart yelled, helplessly waving his arms around.

Snape stepped in taking charge and yelled "Finite Incantatem!", this stopping Potter's legs and Malfoy's laughter.

Now that the noise around her died, Hayley could listen Jae shouting " What did you do!!!! "She quickly walked towards the sound and saw Xan next to Jae who was hunching.

" What happened? " Hayley asked slightly worried seeing the black haired boy,

"Well it was all going smooth until I said Expelliarmus and Jae's fingers kind of sort of got... Dislocated...? " Xan said, trying his best to keep a straight face,
