As a light breeze swept across my face and through my hair, I came conscious and opened one eye. I found myself in bed in my room with Lola sleeping soundly next to me in my arms. Almost felt like she was mine. But she wasn't. And that didn't matter. Not now anyway. Her well-being was my first priority with her.

Knowing that she probably won't be awake for another hour or so, I tried to close my eyes to go back to sleep, but the sandman just didn't want to take me away today. I sighed. It was probably worth checking both of our phones for any and to update. I carefully untangled myself from her and rolled out of bed, picking up my phone on the way. Once stood up, I gently put the duvet back to keep her warm. As my phone was turning on, I walked to the bathroom and rinsed my face to wake up a bit. I then walked back to my phone seeing a variety of drunk messages from the boys, emails and notifications. I then picked up Lola's phone from the table too and headed out onto the balcony, to be extra sure not to wake her up. The time on both phones said 10:03 and as soon as Lola's phone finished turning on, a call came through from her dad which I immediately answered.

'Hi, it's Nathan,' I answered the phone quietly.

'Oh Nathan. Hi. Is Lola there?' her dad asked.

'No she's still asleep, I don't really want to disturb her,' I replied.

'Okay. Well can you let her know that I've got us a flight for 10 o' clock tomorrow morning and I'm currently sorting a funeral date?' he asked.

'O-oh. Yeah okay,' I replied, stuttering a little at how quickly he was prepared to get all of the admin of the situation done. He seemed to have read my mind.

'Look, out of the three of us, she's usually the most organised one. But I'm figuring she's probably not the right state of mind and the quicker we get it done and out the way I guess, the better,' he explained.

'What about you though? She was your daughter just as much as Lo's sister. Do you have anyone helping or...?' I asked out of worry and curiosity. But when the reaction was a 6 second silence, I realised what I had said.

'Oh god no. I'm sorry. Forget I said that I-,' I began but he cut me off.

'Don't worry. It's okay. Nice to know some of Lola's friends care about her family too,' I was stunned at this comment. 'No I er... Please don't tell her this, but I've... I've met someone.' He paused before carrying on. 'It's nothing serious, just a friend. She's been helping me. She lives close to us as well. I don't know what's going on between us but for now it's nice,' he said. I smiled to myself.

'Well, at least you're not alone. That's a good thing,' I said. He chuckled a little.

'What about you and Lo then? Anything I should know?' he asked, emphasising the 'Lo', making me realise I'd used her nickname when talking to him.

'Nothing's happening. We're just friends,' I told him whilst internally facepalming.

'You sure?'

'Yes!'

'Well whatever happens to the two of you, you've made her incredibly happy, despite everything that's happened,' he said. I shrugged.

'She makes me happy,'

'Nathan?' I heard her call from the room.

'Is that her?' he asked.

'Yeah,'

'Alright I'll let you go now. Just remember, flight tomorrow, planning funeral, I'll call later,' he said and hung up. I then put her phone down and walked back into the room.

'You awake Lo?' I asked her. Her eyes were open and her body on her side, facing me. She nodded with a little smile on her face.

'Who were you talking to?' she asked.

'Your dad. He called to let you know he's got a flight for 10 o' clock tomorrow morning,' I told her. She sighed and pushed herself up to sit. At the same time, I went to sit down.

'How are you doing?' I asked her. She shrugged and gave a smile.

'I don't know. Better than last night I guess,' she said. I smiled back and nodded.

'Best you can do I figure,' I replied and she nodded.

'Any plans for today?' I asked her in order to spark conversation. She shrugged.

'Probably pack... I don't know... What is there to do? If Nessy were here... I'd probably take her to Mini Club, help out in the morning then maybe hang out with you in the afternoon,' she said, voice cracking on 'afternoon', and as she said it, I could see her eyes begin to glaze over so I reached out to hold her hands.

'Hey, hey. It's going to be okay. No matter what happens. Remember?'

'How though Nathan? How is it going to be okay? She's gone. She's not coming back. I have no one,' she said, raising her voice. I could see the tears brimming now and just as she got up to, I pulled her into my chest as tears began to spill.

'I have no one,' she whispered again as she shook against my body. I rubbed her upper arms.

'Hey... For what it's worth,' I began. 'You have me?'

'Do I though Nath? Do I? Because I'm going to go home tomorrow and we'll probably never see each other again. I really appreciate what you've done for me but I just feel as though it's amounted to nothing,' she said, looking up at me.

'Lo, if you need me, just say the word and I'll be there. Sure, we have conflicting schedules, but you're my friend. Even if it's not in person, just text, email, even skype me whenever you want,' I told her.

'Are you sure?' she asked. I nodded.

'Absolutely. 100%. I'd much rather you nag me than not talk to me,' I said. She smiled a little and look down.

'I just don't want to be a charity case...'

'Why would you be a charity case?'

'Because I'm all sad and depressed now. People like to take advantage of people when their vulnerable and make them a charity case...' she explained. I shook my head.

'Well I'm not the people then. I'm me. And even though we've only known each other less than a week, I want to call you one of my best friends,'

She stopped. It was almost as though she'd never heard that phrase before.

'Really?' she asked, through a voice thick with doubt and hope. I nodded with a smile.

'Really.'
