That evening I took a shower as soon as I got in and Dad gave Nessy a shower for a change. Once I was out of the shower, I heard a knock on the bathroom door.
'What?' I replied the knock.
'Could you pass us one of Nesta's dresses?' Dad asked me. I walked over to the wardrobe and picked out a cute pink one with multi-coloured polka dots on it. I handed it to Dad.
'There,' I said.
'Thanks!' he said and they walked off. I then put my underwear and stuff on then had a look for what I should wear. I picked out a long floaty green short-sleeved shirt and short, white leggings. I got changed into them and put the towel away. After changing, I started on my makeup. Just the usual; mascara, foundation and a little bit of eyeliner for the evening.
I walked out of the bathroom to see Nessy slowly reading a small book to herself. As soon as she saw me she put the book down, stood up on the bed and smiled. I reflected her smile. Then I walked over to the bag containing the item I'd bought today and fished out the dog I'd bought. I brought it over to Nessy and put it in between her hands.
'This, Nessy, is for being a really big girl yesterday when I wasn't there,' I said. She took it and her eyes widened and danced. She hugged it. Then she hugged me. Oh her hugs...
'Thank you,' I heard her whisper in my ear, although the 'th' sounded more like an 'f'. I didn't correct her. Instead, I smiled and forced the tears not to come.
'It's alright Nessy. I love you,' I whispered back to her.
'I love you too Lola,' she whispered. She hugged me tighter and likewise with me. I felt tears hit my eyes but forced them not to come. I couldn't break down in front of Nessy. Especially not Nessy. She'd be so scared.
The moment was broken by Dad walking in.
'Well girls! Shall we get going?' he asked us. I pulled away from her and smiled at him, nodding my head. Nessy tucked her toy dog into her bed and climbed off the bed to her sandals. I pulled some socks on and then slipped into my jelly shoes and put the room key in the bag. We then went downstairs to the restaurant.
We had tea and we left the restaurant. As we were leaving, we could hear the mini disco starting so Nessy rushed me over to it. The mini disco was great. Even Sophia joined in with Ellie – her sister, and we helped all the kids.
Once mini disco was over and the lollipops had been given out, Sophia and I walked over to the guys as Nessy and Ellie went off to play with their newly found friends. I noticed and heard Nessy telling Ellie all about her day with "the big girls and boys". I smiled to myself as Sophia plonked herself next to Jay and I sat next to Nathan, as usual. Everyone immediately got engaged into their personal conversation.
'How did she like the dog?' Nathan asked me as we looked over at all the little children running around. I grinned and nodded.
'She loved it,' I told her. He smirked.
'And oh no – I didn't pick it out or anything,' he said sarcastically. I laughed, slapping his shoulder playfully.
'Of course you didn't. Haha, no. Thanks for that. You two seemed to really bond together today,' I told him. He nodded, grinning.
'Yeah... She's a great kid. I can tell why you're so close to her. She's smart,' he commented. I nodded in agreement and for the next hour or so, we engaged in a fully-fledged conversation about life and what we'd done and our favourite music and movies and similar things. Until we heard an announcement from a man who had a spotlight shone on him on the mini disco dance floor.
