I left the room and took the stairs down to the reception to see Nathan and Sophia and the others waiting for me. I waved to them. Sophia saw me first and came over and greeted me with a hug.
'So glad you could come! Otherwise I'd be stuck with guys all day!' she said, pulling away from the hug. I laughed.
'No problem,' I said. We walked over to the guys. They all greeted me with a hug.
'Hey!' the almost bald guy said.
'Hey!' I replied.
'Shall we get going then?' a woman asked us. We nodded and set off. I stayed near the back. Nathan walked with me to the taxi, smiling.
We then all squeezed into two taxis and went off. We sat in the car in silence, with the occasional small talk. It took about ten minutes. When we got there, we paid the drivers and they drove off. We were now stood in front of a market. Not really a market but it's the best way you could describe it. I knew this place all right. It was where Mum and Dad always took me. I stopped and stood by the black stony steps whilst the others climbed up them into the market. I took a moment for myself. My eyes started becoming a little watery. I hadn't been here since she'd gone and wasn't prepared for all the emotions that'd inevitably come back.
'Miss you Mum,' I whispered quietly and inaudibly, as I let a tear escape my eye.
'Hey you okay?' I heard Nathan asked. He was rubbing my back comfortingly, as if he seemed to understand this place meant a lot to me. I looked up at him and put on a fake smile and nodded, blinking back the tears rapidly.
'Yeah. Just memories...' I said, wiping the tear away from my cheek and climbing up the steps. When I got to the top of them, I stared down them. I remember Mum helping me up those steps when I was Nessy's age. I tried a smile. Then I turned and walked away. Nathan ran to catch up with me.
'What was wrong?' he asked. I shook my head.
'Nothing. I'm fine,' I lied, giving him a smile. He got the note not to take it any further so he fell silent. We caught up with the others who were waiting for us. The woman started talking.
'Alright shall we split up and meet back when we're finished?' she suggested. We all agreed and gradually groups started to form and they went off. We formed three groups. Sophia and the guy with curly hair went off together and the woman and the almost bald one, the dark skinned one and the tallish one went off and Nathan and I were left.
'Shall we go?' he asked me. I nodded. He linked his arm through mine and we walked off to a random direction.
'So are you a fan?' he asks me.
'Um.... A fan of what?' I reply, timidly.
'Of us! We're in a band! The WANTED. Ever heard of us?' he asks me. I bite my lip. That's where I recognised him from.
'I think I've seen you on TV a bit but I never bothered looking you up... Sorry?' I admitted.
'It's alright, don't worry. That also means you have no idea of the names of the other guys. Do you?' he asked me.
I shook my head
So he explained who they were and what they had done. After about an hour of walking, I'd realised we hadn't even gone into a shop. We had just spent an hour, nonchalantly talking about stuff. It was nice. I'd never had anyone to do that with before.
We walked up to a familiar shop. I knew it from somewhere but I'd forgotten where.
'Want to have a look in here?' he asked me. I nodded. So we walked into the shop and saw racks of wooden items. I unlinked our arms and walked out to the bracelet stand. It was then remembered coming here and buying a bracelet with Mum, similar to the ones there. I felt Nathan put his hands on my shoulder. We were silent for a while. We were also the only ones in the shop.
'Mum bought me one of these when I was small,' I said quietly. Then I saw the wooden bracelet I had on my arm. It was the one. I took it off and compared it to the others.
'It's the same,' Nathan pointed out. I nodded. I slipped my bracelet back on and walked away from the stand. We looked at the wooden animals and then left the shop. We then walked around a bit more and went into a couple more shops. Some of them I knew the owner of. As I went into those they smiled at me. I smiled back. All those shops reminded me so much of Mum. I tried not to dwell in them too long.
We came out of another shop with no purchases. Suddenly, Nathan's phone went off. He took it.
'Hello? Yeah I guess so. Alright. See you soon!' he said and hung up.
'Got to go back?' I guessed. He nodded.
'Let's go,' he said and linked his arm through mine again. Then, we headed off.
