"Yeah, I really like that color." Jade said, pointing to the color pallet on the table. She and Caylie were at school early to discuss the color schemes for the diner. They'd decided on checkered tiling that was black and white. Blue walls, lined with yellow base boards. A pink neon sign that Jade was going to commission the art department to help her design. Caylie was going to propose to the football boys and the cheerleaders to help out with the money situation by sponsoring a car wash. "Piece of cake." Caylie said. "I like cake!" Jade squealed.
I walked up with my fingers nervously wrapped around my backpack straps. It kinda felt like everyone was against me. "Hey guys..." I said, softly. "I should go." Jade immediately said. "Well, I—" "No, I wouldn't want you sitting at a table with someone who you think is just as bad as her family." Jade said, coldly. Christ...the bite of her words stung worse than Shayne's. "Please don't. I'm kind of stuck and the way out is for me to admit that I was wrong." I said. She wrinkled her brow, narrowing her eyes. It felt like they were piercing right through my body. "Come on, Jade. Don't you just want to hear her out?" Caylie asked, reaching out and grabbing her hand to tug her back. Right as I opened my mouth to speak, a horrible buzzer noise emanated from it.
My eyes fluttered open and I groaned, reaching over to shut off the alarm clock. I sat up, running my fingers through my hair before reaching for my glasses. "Great, now I don't even have a basis of how to apologize." I grunted, getting up out of bed. I shuffled towards the bathroom to start the morning.
Jade rolled her lips together, looking at herself in the mirror. She had woken up with an awful feeling this morning, like something bad was going to happen. She had tried to shake the feeling off with a cold shower, but nothing really seemed to be working. Taking a deep inhale, she pushed the air out through her lips. "Alright, let's just get through today." She said to herself.
"Get up." Damien grunted. He reached down, slapping Shayne's foot off the coffee table. The sudden motion jerked the hungover blond awake. "Leave me alone...I'm sleeping in..." Shayne grumbled. Damien just rolled his eyes. "No, we're going to school. I don't care how hungover you are." He said, grabbing Shayne by the arm and pulling him up. Although Shayne's protests were verbal, he didn't object to a shower. Once he was cleaned up, Damien helped him get dressed. "No more whining. No more bitching. No more Terror Billy and especially, NO MORE Gill." Damien's pointer finger pressed against Shayne's chest. "I already said I'd leave the situation alone." Shayne grunted. "Let's get something to eat then." Damien prompted.
The two of them raided Shayne's kitchen, eating cereal and microwavable waffles. Shayne's mother was asleep in the other room and his father was probably just getting off work from his late night shift at the factory. Shayne hardly sees his parents anymore. It's almost like they live three totally different lives. "We just need to get you laid." Damien suggested, driving the spoon down into the mucked sugar based food. "Thanks, but that's the last thing on my mind right now. I blew my chances to sleep with the one girl I really liked." Damien just shrugged his shoulders. "Speaking of getting laid, you seemed pretty relaxed yesterday. Things finally work out for you and Caylie?" Damien nearly choked on his cereal. "No...I guess I was just in a happy mood." He lied. Nothing would be worse than having to admit not only did he cheat on Caylie, but he cheated with the only person who mattered. Besides it was really none of their business. It was just a one time thing. A spur of the moment type thing. No feelings attached. "Damien?" Shayne questioned. "Huh?" "I asked what do you think I should do?" Damien placed the spoon back down in the milk. "Nothing, I guess. Just wait for the conversation to be initiated." Damien proposed. "If only it were that easy..." Shayne grumbled, getting to his feet and taking his empty bowl to the sink.
Meanwhile, Jade had already gotten to school. She had sent Javi a couple of text messages. The first one apologized for being so stand offish lately and the second was just an echo of her wanting to know if she'd been heard. Javier hadn't answered back, but it wasn't because he was ignoring her...but because he was fixing to have to face something. He sat in his vehicle in the parking lot, dreading walking up to the school. He couldn't be seen talking to her or it might give away which student he'd been...fornicating with. He couldn't wrap his head around who would've said something. It had to have been someone who had known. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against the steering wheel.
