As much as I hated to admit it, we didn't do so well playing against the teams in Florida. However, it did help with the bonding of us as a team on our own. The other girls had really accepted me as a team player. It was just too bad that the season was ending. I was happy to get home and spend some time with my mother. We flew back on Thursday afternoon. I'd still have school on Friday, which I didn't mind. Despite not winning, I somehow knew we'd be celebrated back home.

"Oh honey, how was your flight?" My mother asked. She and Frankie had picked me up from the airport. "It was fine." "How was Florida?" Frankie asked. "Kinda gross. Too humid." I said. He laughed. "It's certainly no picnic. I lived there for 8 years before moving to LA." He said. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah. Ten out of ten, would NOT recommend." My mother gave laughter to that corny joke. I could see under the terrible lighting of the passing highway markers how she was staring at him. How her fingers curled around the knuckles of his free hand that was resting on the console. I wondered what Shayne was doing.

"Did you ask Gill if she wanted to come?" Caylie asked Jade. "I was thinking about it." Jade said as they were browsing the section of Walmart that had swimsuits. "Goddamnit, I'm really going to get stuck wearing a two piece swimsuit." Jade grumbled. "And that's a problem, why?" She asked. "I've just been kinda bloated lately and I wanna hide it." Jade said. Caylie wrinkled her brow. "Is that why you've suddenly started wearing t-shirts and shorts to school?" She asked. "Kind of. It's mostly because none of my bras are fitting." She said. "Why is that?" Caylie asked. Jade stopped flipping through the tops on the rack to look up at her. "Are you...are you pregnant?" She asked. Jade frowned before her eyes flickered away. "Oh my god. You are!" She said, coming around the rack. "Caylie, no. I'm not pregnant." She said. "Prove it then." She said. "How do you expect me to prove that?" Jade asked. Without warning, Caylie reached out, placing her hands on Jade's chest. Her tits were heavy and she winced at the touch. "You're fucking pregnant." She said. "I am not!" Jade defended. "Goddamnit, when was the last period you had then?" She asked. "It was...January?" Jade said. "You're a literal month late?!" She said in a hushed voice.

"I thought my period was just late. It does that sometimes." She said. "Wait a second, you're not pregnant by..." "Ew! No!" "You did have sex with him." "I couldn't be pregnant because the week before Valentine's Day, I slept with Javi." She said. "What? Okay, hold on. We need to put off looking at swimsuits so you can tell me about this." Caylie grabbed Jade by the hand, dragging her to McDonald's. They ordered a couple of drinks and sat at the very back of the restaurant. "When exactly did you and Javi have sex?" She asked. "Well, it was before the week of Valentine's Day...either Wednesday or Friday. I don't know for sure. It was against his desk in the classroom, I remember that much." "Oh Christ...you let him fuck you at school?" She asked. "It wasn't my intent! We started talking about Gill and he was telling me that he was sorry and that it didn't mean anything to him. Like usual, he had to prove it to me." Caylie sighed. "Well, at least it's not Shayne." She said. "I did tell him." Jade said. "Did you tell Javi?" She asked. "No..." "He is the father of your child! You need to tell him!" She protested. "I'm gonna...I'm just working up to it." Jade said, softly.

"Well, we should go get a test because I still don't believe this." Caylie said. "I've taken the test five times. It keeps coming out positive." Jade said. "Does your dad know?" She asked. Jade shook her head. "Not yet. I wanted to tell him when he's gone." "Where's he going?" Caylie asked. "Into Witness Protection. I don't have to go with him since I'm 18. I can opt to go my separate way. The government is pretty sure I won't get accosted." She said. "You're certain?" Caylie asked. "Definitely." Jade said. "I still think we should take a test, just to be sure." Caylie said, getting up from the table and leaving the restaurant.

Shayne was feeling particularly dreamy after school. He was sitting in his car with Damien. A haze was billowing through the car. Damien reached over and flipped the A/C on, it blew the smoke towards the backseat. "What's wrong with you, man?" Damien asked, his voice straining with the smoke in his lungs. "I was just thinking about some things." Shayne said. His eyes were focused outside the vehicle as the lush greenery on the opposing side of the abandoned parking lot. "Like what?" Damien asked, the smoke exiting his lungs and adding to the pre-existing cloud. Shayne started to giggle. It was obvious the drugs were starting to kick in. "What?" Damien could barely see through the fogginess to the blond who was beginning to get silly over something in his mind. "I have to tell you something." Shayne said. He reached over, continuing to laugh, but taking the small lit cigarette from between Damien's fingers. "Tell me." Damien said.
