Friday morning comes and I'm dragging myself out of bed. No matter how I feel, I've got to go to school today. I need to turn in my essay and the rest of my homework for my classes. Benchmarks are today and I feel pretty prepared for them. As I'm tugging my overalls up around my shoulders, I grab my phone off the nightstand. I vaguely remember sending Caylie a text message asking her why she didn't bother telling any of us about the police coming to talk to her. I rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes, attempting to read the response.

C: I didn't say anything because I had it handled. No big deal, right? (:

I sighed, running my hand over my face.

M: Sure, but what if something had happened?

I placed my phone in my pocket and finished getting dressed and went downstairs. My mother was standing in the kitchen in her work uniform, drinking some coffee. "Good morning." I said, walking over to the fridge and opening it. I grabbed something out of it and ripped open the packaging. "I've been thinking..." my mother said, setting her coffee down. I looked up, shoving the breakfast food in my mouth. "About?" I asked. "About what you asked last night and I think it would be good for you, so I'm letting you go." I gave a big smile. "That's amazing, thank you mom." I said.

As I was leaving, my mother told me it would be a late shift tonight. Which meant we probably wouldn't see each other until I came back from our little vacation. I didn't mind it, but I was going to miss my mother a lot. I left my vacation bag downstairs on the couch, grabbed my backpack and headed out the door.

Jade opened the bathroom door and stepped out. Her towel was wrapped around herself. Javier was standing at her bedroom window. He had his shirt on, and it was unbuttoned. His cigarette was perched between his lips while the end of it was glowing. His jeans were balanced on his hips as he stood there. "Remind you of something?" Jade asked as she was hooking the eyes together on her corset. He turned around, laying the cigarette down in the ashtray on her nightstand. "Maybe the first night we spent together." His fingers looped around the strings as she turned around. He pulled them until there was no slack in the ribbon. "Wrap around?" He asked. "Not today, just double knot it. It feels tighter for some reason." "In the chest?" "In the stomach. I'm sure its nothing." She said, turning around and giving him a kiss. "You're going to be late if you don't button your shirt." She said. His eyes fluttered across her face. "You do it for me." He suggested. She raised a brow. "Oh come on, its been like...weeks since we've even been in the same room together. It's the least you can do...please?" He said, pushing his bottom lip out. "Don't pout." She said, walking back over and fiddling with the buttons on his shirt.

Moments later, the two of them were leaving the house. Javier was going back to his apartment to clean things up. He was also going to start packing and find a place closer to where Jade was. He didn't want to have to drive across town anymore to see her. It was easier if he came to her. Javier wouldn't be returning to the high school until he was sure that he hadn't been fired for not being there. He had let Principal Masterson know that he was going to be taking his vacation time for personal reasons. Luckily it had worked, but there was always the question of what had been going on. Javier hadn't bothered to ask Jade about James or what was going on with Stone Industries. Instead, he was going straight to the source after sorting things out at his apartment.

As we were sitting in science class, the substitute was cruising down the aisle's observing us as we were taking our tests. She had turned out to be a nice person. However, I really missed the way Javier did things. He was more hands on. Phrasing boom. Jade came walking in right in the middle of testing. "Ms. Tondre, you're extremely late." The substitute said, ushering her out of the classroom. "I know, I was dealing with some shit." I heard Jade say. The door shut and everyone looked up. We exchanged silence glances before returning our attention back to the tests. However, when I looked up the second time Shayne was staring back at me. He had a certain gleam in his eye that seemed softer than usual. I waved my hand and that glassy look disappeared. He raised his brows. What? I mouthed. Red immediately flushed his cheeks. He just shook his head and turned his attention back on the paper in front of him. A few moments later, Jade came back into the classroom with the sub following on her heels. She walked over to her desk and sat down. She wasn't given a test like the rest of us. Apparently, she'd been instructed to keep quiet and not disrupt those of us testing.
