The horn honked loudly outside my house. I pulled the front door open, moving down the sidewalk. I tossed my beach bag in the bed of Shayne's truck. I jumped in the front seat, leaning over the console to give Shayne a kiss on the cheek. He pressed down on the accelerator pedal and the truck zoomed down the road. The radio was playing. I reached forward and turned the volume up. We started to sing as the music came blaring through the speakers.
G: Think about it, there must be a higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart and I'll look inside mine
J: Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair
We walk the line and try to see
Falling behind in what could be, oh-oh
Everyone started to sing the chorus line.
Bring me a higher love!
Bring me a higher love, oh!
Bring me a higher love!
Where's that higher love I keep thinking of
We rolled the windows down and it seemed like the music blared loudly as the truck moved down the highway. The sea breeze streamed in through the car. The air was warm and the sun was brighter than ever. The bass bounced against the inside of the truck's cab.
C: World a-turning and we're just hanging on
Facing out fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, yeah, and it's real to me
S: There must be someone who's feeling for me
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
D: We walk the line and try to see
Falling behind in what could be, oh-oh!
I looked over at Shayne and he gave me a bright grin. His hands drummed against the steering wheel as he started to sing along with the rest of us. Jade, Caylie and Damien pushed against the backs of the seats, screaming the lyrics together.
Bring me a higher love, my lord!
Bring me a higher love, oh!
Bring me a higher love!C: Where's that higher love I keep thinking of
The music continued in the background as we drove down the city-based streets to get to the beach. Our vocalizations hummed alongside the music as we pulled up to other cars sitting at stoplights. Heads were turning at the loud thumping of music and none of us could care.
D & S: Bring me a higher love!
C: Bring me a higher love!
J & G: Bring me a higher love I keep thinking of!
I couldn't be happier than in this moment right here. The music stopped on a single piano key. We pulled up to the sandy edge of the beach. The wind rushed against the dunes, sweeping the sand along and spreading it somewhere else. The scenery switched to us laying on the beach on towels. The sun was beating down as Shayne's fingers worked themselves against my shoulders, spreading around the tanning oil. The music was playing on Damien's Bluetooth speaker. He reached over and turned the volume up and we started to sing again.
