Early in the morning, students were clamoring outside Ms. Rod's classroom door to observe the posted list of people who had been selected for the respective plays. I had found myself amongst them, but the bell rang before I could find myself on the list. "Good morning!" Shayne said, moving swiftly towards me and scooping me up. I caught myself in a laughing fit. "What are you doing, you big lug?" I questioned as he lowered me. Inadvertently, he leaned forward in an attempt to kiss me. I reached up, placing my fingers on his lips. "Shayne..." I said. "Come on, Gilly...lemme kiss you." He said, fingers wrapping around my wrist to tug it downwards. He leaned down, near my ear, his breath hot on my skin. "Better yet...let me fuck you, Gilly." I gasped, my eyes snapping open as I sat up in bed. Goddamnit.

"Gill! You're going to be late!" My mother shouted from downstairs. I came bounding down the stairs, with my bag slung over my shoulder. "I'm right here." I said, mid-yawn. "Goodness. Are you sleepy?" My mom asked. "Yeah, just a bit. I need to be pumped up today though. My theater selection should be given to me today." "Well, I hope you get what you want." My mother said. We left the house and my mother drove me to school. Caylie was waiting for me in the courtyard. "Where's Jade?" I asked. "She'll be late. She spent the night with Javi." "God, things must be bad with her parents." Caylie just shrugged. "It's not a surprise. Her parents do these things. I don't know why they don't just go and stay gone. It only causes more anguish for them to pop in on her." We walked to class together. "Did you wanna check out Ms. Rod's roster?" Caylie asked me. "Nah, I assume a lot of people have the same idea. Plus, I don't wanna get my hopes up." I said.

Science class started and despite Javi being there, Jade had still not shown up. I had sent her a few messages, but she hadn't replied back. I couldn't focus. "Ms. Demofonte." A voice startled my thoughts. I looked up to see Mr. Peña looming over me. "Sir?" I choked. I was a little embarrassed at the thought of maybe missing important information for my day dreams. His darkened gaze fixed to my eyes. It was easy to see what attracted Jade to him; it had to have been his eyes. Or maybe it was his mouth...or his mustache. "Cell structure, please." He said, handing me the piece of chalk that was clamped between his fingers. "Oh...oh! Right." I said, stumbling from my seat. I had hoped no one had seen what I had done or had heard what I was thinking. I moved up the aisle towards the chalkboard, I could feel everyone's eyes following me. I raised the chalk to the dusty board and began to scribble out the commonalities of cell structure. Quickly, I finished, placing the chalk in the metal tray and turning towards Mr. Peña searching for approval or disapproval. His fingers tapped his chin. "Alright, Ms. Demofonte. Who can explain to me the most important part in cell structure?" He asked, cruising around the aisles. The students remained quiet. "Guys, this is a refresher. Not a lesson, I can't believe you all don't remember this." My eyes darted around to the students' confused faces. "Guys...organelles...are what they're called." He said, moving towards me. He picked up the chalk and circled the things I had listed off. "Nucleus, vaculoes, and the mitochondria." He said, pointing. "Thank you, Gill." His hand moved to my back, pushing me away. I jumped, easing against the warmth before stepping forward and moving back to my desk. The lecture continued on.

As class was wrapping up, I stuck around once everyone had left. "You're still here, Ms. Demofonte?" Javier asked, not even glancing up from the papers on the desk. "I uh...yeah, just needed to ask you some things." "If it pertains to class, my tutoring hours are listed on the door." He said, dismissively. "It doesn't." I said, sharply. He paused what he was doing, eyes flicking up to meet me. I felt a lump form in my throat. I don't see how Jade can handle his intimidation. I swallowed the lump. "If it's about Ms. Tondre, see me at lunch time." He said, stepping around the desk and ushering me towards the door. Slowly, I moved towards him. "I just wanna know if she's okay." I said. "Lunch time, Gill." He said, pushing me out the door and shutting it behind me. I huffed.
