Okay so I've had twelve requests (and counting) to find out how long it took the Avengers to figure out what was happening, so I decided to prioritise this over group chat 4 (haha now you regret it) before things got out of hand. I'm probably too late anyway, but eh. Enjoy!
Also I'm sorry for the long chapter delay, things have been busy in my life lately. Nothing bad, just haven't had much spare time for writing ^-^
Okay, when I said earlier that it took the Avengers a long time to realise they were being tricked, I mean it took about a year and a half for Bucky and Peter to get bored of the game. The Avengers are almost as oblivious as everyone in MLB Paris and were clearly never going to figure it out all by themselves. So obviously, instead of just telling them, they constructed an elaborate reveal plan.
Spider-Man had become a more famous hero, and had been approached by the Avengers multiple times with an offer to train with them. He kept declining purely because he was worried he would reveal himself as the squirt, or that Bucky wouldn't be able to keep a straight face around them.
So when he showed up at Stark Tower one day with a bag of donuts, it's safe to say the Avengers were more than a little surprised. After all, they'd (somewhat understandably) assumed that Spidey had some kind of grudge against them and was just trying to be polite.
"Mind if I come in? I brought cake!" When there was no response beyond stunned silence, he tilted his head. "Am I interrupting something? If you're busy, I can come back lat-"
"No," Steve was the first one to snap out of it. "We're not busy. Please, come on in. Do you need help with something?"
"Nope, everything's good. I just thought it was about time I got to know you."
"In that case, we have only one question," Stark smirked. "Who's your favourite Avenger?"
"Uh..." Spidey's gaze scanned the room, and he hesitated. Just then, Bucky walked in, doing a double-take when he saw the vigilante. "Mr Barnes!" His voice lit up. "Oh, wow, this is the best day of my life! Sir you are amazingly cool and like my number one idol. Can I touch your metal arm? Sorry if that's weird or offensive, I just think it's amazing that you're still an Avenger after everything you've been through. Can you sign an autograph for my friend and I?"
"Woah, woah, woah." Bucky backed away. "Nice to meet you too."
"Hold up. He's your choice?"
"What? He's been such an inspiration to me, and no offence captain, but he can do everything you can do except without a shield, stupid costume, PSAs or a whole arm! What a legend!"
Bucky began to smile. "I like this one."
"Oh my gosh, the White Wolf says he likes me," Spidey fanned at his face. Bicky bit back a smirk at the baffled expressions of his teammates.
"So what brings you to the tower?" He asked the vigilante.
"I just wanted to say hi, maybe take you up on that training offer?"
"That's great!" Clint leapt in. "But why the sudden change of heart?"
Spidey shrugged. "Want some cake?"
After that day, Spider-Man visited the tower regularly, and became like a nephew to most of the Avengers (although they'd never admit it). Throughout the following weeks, Squirt kept texting the group chat like normal, and Bucky and Peter prepared for their next step.
"Guys, I want you to meet my new personal intern!" Stark announced. Peter waved shyly from behind him, not meeting Bucky's eye. With a little help from the super soldier, Peter had applied for the new position after Tony had been convinced he needed help in the lab and gotten the job almost immediately. He would never know how Bucky managed it, but so far everything was going smoothly.
