I followed the other four through the door, dropping my eyes to the floor when I felt Phil's gaze fall onto me. Big Q and Fundy went to work, searching through barrels and underneath tables and chairs, checking behind corners and rummaging through the many chests. I took a step to the left, leaning against the window, and watched Tubbo pick up a few items off a dresser, turning them over in his hand, before setting them back in the same place.
"Not interested in searching, are you?" Ranboo hummed beside me. I glanced over to find him standing to my right, his arms crossed in front of him. Phil stood a few steps away from us, his mouth pulled into a thin line as he watched the other three.
"And you're not, either?" I asked in response. He shrugged, shifting his weight to the other leg, a slight frown on his face. I turned to see Big Q pulling the books off of the bookshelf, tossing them carelessly to the ground. Upon finding nothing of interest, he turned away to search somewhere else.
"Hey—" I said loudly, "We're not animals, here. The least you could do is put things back where you found them." Phil's head turned my way as I spoke, but I ignored him, not wanting to make eye contact.
"If you're so concerned about that, then do it yourself," Big Q snapped back in annoyance, "It's not like you're doing much, anyway." I huffed at his answer, walking across the room to the bookshelf.
"Fucking dick," I muttered, rolling my eyes and squatting down. I picked up each of the books, flattening the crushed pages and organizing them in small piles, before standing up again and placing the books back on the shelf.
As I walked past Phil to stand next to Ranboo again, I swear I heard him whisper a word of thanks under his breath. And once I was beside Ranboo again, I made the mistake of glancing over at him. His eyes locked with mine and there was a look of confusion, and slight disappointment, on his face.
He thinks I told them, I thought to myself, looking away, And he doesn't understand why. I bit my lip to keep myself from frowning, my stomach turning flips inside of me. My attention turned back to Big Q, who was walking up to Phil.
"So, Phil," he started, "Do you know where Techno lives?"
"No, I don't," Phil replied, his voice steady, "I haven't seen him since the day he set off those withers in old L'Manberg. Where did you get that idea from?"
"You often disappear for days at a time, and nobody knows where you go," Big Q explained to him, "Do you deny that?"
"And that's your evidence?" Phil exclaimed in disbelief, "I appeared out of nowhere, too, didn't I? Before you all saw me in the button room with Wilbur? I've got things to deal with outside of L'Manberg, and it's got nothing to do with your country's grudges."
"Well, why don't you tell us about these things you do," Big Q responded impatiently, "We've got all the time in the world to hear!" Phil bristled and a frown spread across his face.
"This isn't going to end well," Ranboo murmured to me, "Big Q, Fundy, and Tubbo are going to take it too far. It doesn't even matter whether Phil knows Techno's location—the situation's already escalated too much."
"You're right." I nodded in agreement, wincing as Fundy dumped the contents of a barrel onto the floor. Ranboo exhaled loudly beside me.
"You can't even tell us!" Big Q yelled, throwing his hands in the air, "Can't you see how suspicious you make yourself? You disappear to an unknown location for days on end, and can't even tell us what you do! Just tell us where Techno is, Phil. You don't need to make it hard on us!"
"I don't know where he is!" Phil shouted back angrily, "You have no right to destroy my house searching for something that doesn't exist!" I found myself taking a step forward to interfere when Tubbo's voice cut through the argument.
"Hey, Big Q—" he said with a smirk, holding up a small compass, "Look what I've found."
Big Q's face brightened into a smile as the color drained from Phil's face in shock. Tubbo shut the open chest next to him before walking over, spinning the compass over his finger.
"And you were saying something?" Fundy questioned with a cold laugh, "About not knowing where Techno lives?" Tubbo tossed the compass to Big Q, who studied it carefully.
"I see the words 'Techno's Compass' written right here." Big Q smirked, holding up and tapping the compass for Phil to see. "What do you have to say for yourself?" Phil opened his mouth before quickly closing it again, fear flashing in his eyes.
Ranboo knocked into my arm and motioned towards the other three. I nodded, internally sighing, before following him to join the rest of our group. Big Q whispered something to Tubbo, who turned to Phil again.
"I'm sorry, Phil, but for not cooperating with us, we're going to have to put you on house arrest," Tubbo said to the winged man, "You are not allowed to leave your house until further notice. Fundy—"
The fox eared man nodded, pulling a small object from his pocket— a thick bracelet of sorts.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Ankle monitor." Big Q took the object from Fundy and showed it to me. "It'll alert us if Phil steps out of the house." There was a small red light blinking in the center of the ankle monitor, presumably showing that it was turned on.
"What the fuck," Phil deadpanned, staring at it, "What the fuck is wrong with you guys. Have you lost your minds?" He shifted his weight uncomfortably, his hands tightened into fists at his sides.
"Please, Phil, we don't want any trouble," Fundy said, "Just let us attach this and we'll be on our way." The winged man huffed angrily, but he had no other choice.
"Fine. Then get the fuck outta my house."
"Gladly," Big Q responded with a smile, clicking the monitor over Phil's right ankle. Then, he used a small metal key to lock it in place, sliding the key back in his pocket afterwards.
Seeing the key sparked an idea in my head, though.
An idea that was reckless, but could possibly right some wrongs.
"Let's head back to base, then," Tubbo suggested, "Get everything ready to track down Techno." Big Q, Fundy, and Ranboo all nodded in agreement, and I walked with them out of the house without looking back at Phil. I heard the door slam loudly behind us and the lock click into place.
The walk back to the Butchery Army Headquarters was silent, but there was a cheerful feeling in the air. Upon entering the headquarters, Fundy and Tubbo quickly went to work preparing supplies such as potions and medical supplies while Big Q scribbled something on a piece of paper at the table.
My mind had taken note when he set the key down on a shelf by the entrance.
