"How many sets of armor do we have?"
"There's two full sets here, plus a couple random pieces..."
I watched Tommy continue digging through the large chest while Big Q scanned the list of items in his hand. To my right, Fundy was struggling to reach a crate on the top shelf.
Ranboo was standing across the room. The two of us stared at each other and then he slightly rolled his eyes. I held back a grin as he walked across the room and picked up the crate without any effort. He set it on the ground next to Fundy.
Fundy's ears dropped. He looked up at Ranboo and then over at me—I was failing miserably at holding my laughter. Fundy had a pissed look on his face. "Fuck you. Both of you," he muttered.
"Guys, come on," Big Q sighed, "we don't have time to fool around. We've got a war on our hands."
"Like, tomorrow," Tommy added. He shot me a pointed look and I stuck my tongue out at him. He grinned and shook his head, directing his attention back to the chest.
"Hey, (Y/n), could you do me a favor and run over to the White House?" Big Q asked me, "let Tubbo know that we still need at least three full sets of armor. Ask him what to do."
"I have some sore iron at home," I responded, "I'm not sure how much, but it's enough for maybe one set. Want me to craft it?"
"That would be great," Big Q affirmed, "but still go tell Tubbo."
"Oh, 'course. I'll just grab the iron after I talk with him. Be back soon." I nodded to Big Q with a smile. Before walking out of the storage room, I leaned over and smacked Tommy upside the head. He yelped in surprise as his head bounced off the inner side of the wooden chest.
"You fucking bitch!" He exclaimed, popping his head out of the chest. He flipped me off with both hands while I waved him goodbye from the doorway.
Laughing to myself, I walked down the path to the White House. It was midday and though it was a bit chilly outside, the warmth of the sunlight made the day feel comfortable. I spotted the L'Mantree from the corner of my vision and suddenly recalled the events of the night before.
I had not yet told of my neutrality to the others. I almost did in the morning, when we had a meeting by the stage, but couldn't bring myself to destroy the positive mood. I promised myself that I would tell them, yet I couldn't bring myself to do so.
I knocked on the front door of the White House. A muffled voice called back and I heard the thumps of quick footsteps growing louder as they approached. The locked clicked and Tubbo pulled the door open, grinning at me.
"(Y/n)! Need anything?" He asked.
"Big Q wanted to let you know that we still need at least three sets of armor. But I do have some iron back at home that we can use."
Tubbo hummed and nodded, his eyes looking past me into the distance. After a moment, his gaze refocused onto me. "Want to come in for a bit? I need a break from work."
"Sure." I followed him through the door.
We went into the kitchen and pulled out two bottles of water, tossing one to me. I caught it easily and rolled my eyes at him. "It's glass. What if I didn't catch it?"
The brunet grinned, his eyes bright. "Hey, if anyone's going to catch it—it's you."
"Lots of trust, there," I hummed.
"You're like my second in command. Of course I trust you," he retorted playfully. He swung around the kitchen counter and hopped onto the bar stool. I leaned against the counter, swishing the water in circles inside the bottle.
My head was spinning. I had planned on telling him of my neutrality, but now I was backing down again. I couldn't just tell him. He had so much trust in me. Maybe I'd just have to stand aside during the war and watch, hoping none of them noticed...
"I was reading over a petition written by Niki a couple minutes before you came," Tubbo commented. I looked over at him curiously. I hadn't properly seen Niki since the festival—I was busy with war preparations and lost in my own head.
"What about?" I asked.
"She thinks we ought not to fight this war. That it's time to give up L'Manburg," Tubbo replied in a darker tone, "that it'll cause more harm than good."
My heart skipped a beat at the brunet's words. Niki felt the same way as I did? I would have to try looking for her later to talk about it.
"What's your thoughts on that?" Tubbo asked me.
I shrugged at his question, holding my face in a blank expression. "Honestly, Tubbo, I can see what she means. Think about how much conflict we've gone through because of L'Manburg."
"I s'pose..." the boy tilted his head to the side. Our conversation dropped to silence for a minute. My eyes drifted to the window and I remembered that I had a job that I was meant to do.
"Ah. I've got to go," I exclaimed quickly, "I still need to grab the iron from my house to make into armor. Then I've got to go back to Big Q."
"Sorry for holding you up," Tubbo laughed.
I smiled at him. "I could care less."
I said goodbye to him and left the White House to head over to my house in L'Manbrug. I was walking at a fast pace and must not have been paying any attention to my surroundings because—out of nowhere—something large and feathery smacked me right in the face.
The thing squawked loudly and I yelled in surprise as well, stumbling backwards while trying to pull the thing from my face. After gaining my vision back, I looked down at my right hand to find myself holding a medium-sized crow by the back with a letter tied to one of its feet.
"What the fuck," I muttered. The crow stared at me as if it was saying the exact same thing. I carefully released it upright on the ground and it squawked again, hopping towards me.
I untied the letter from its foot and stood back up. I unrolled the letter and read its contents. There was just one sentence on the paper in small, neat writing belonging to Techno: Don't leave anything important in your house.
Oh, dear. I did not like the sound of that.
"What's Phil and Techno got planned, huh?" I crossed my arms and looked down at the crow, which was still on the ground near my feet. The crow looked back up at me, tilting its head.
